On July 31, 1982 he married Susan Russell.

Steve was a builder of communities. He moved to Missouri from Texas in 1978. He set his roots in the Nixa community, building homes and relationships with the people around him. Steve also built several banks for Great Southern throughout Missouri with his friend, Steve Huff. He built and owned the Southern Oaks Inn hotel with his cousin Bobby Neal in Branson, featured on "Hotel Impossible." Steve was on a local building team for "Extreme Home Makeover." But most importantly he built his family. Steve was a proud father and grandfather and a lover of books and providing for his family. He worked and built banks until his final day.
