Stephen Soutee Obituary

Stephen R. "Steve" Soutee

Stephen R. "Steve" Soutee, age 68, of Fairview, Mo, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015, in Springfield, Mo.

He was born March 2, 1947, in Aurora, Mo, the son of Oakley Dale and Betty Lou (Rickman) Soutee, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Knial Soutee.

Surviving are one brother, Tommy Dale Soutee and his wife Tish of Marionville, Mo; his step-mother, Dixie Soutee of Marionville, Mo.; six nieces and nephews, Matt Soutee and his wife Darren and Misty Hicks and her husband Charles all of Republic, Mo., Tyler Soutee and Kaitlyn Soutee both of Branson, Mo. and Ashton Clark and Chauncey Clark both of Springfield, Mo. and seven great nieces and nephews.

Steve grew up and received his education at Marionville, where he graduated from high school. Steve attended undergraduate school at SMS in Springfield, Missouri and graduated law school at Oklahoma City University. He practiced law in Marionville over 20 years. He was a former racehorse owner and still an avid fan. In the last 10 years, Steve had become a master gardener and gained a reputation for his smoked meats. He loved playing cards, for money or for free, and listening to his Cardinals. He left behind an impressive collection of Western memorabilia, along with friends all over the country.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015, in IOOF Cemetery, Marionville, Missouri, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

What a wonderful man, what a wonderful family. I used to work for this whole group. I worked for Knial Soutee and let me tell you. We all loved each other as a family or at least that's how I felt. To the Soutee family I lift every one of you up in prayer. All the S&D times (Schutz and Dooleys, Cartoons, horse races, the list goes one. We/they lived life had fun and worked hard. Our motto at work "If you can't play with the big dog's then get off the porch" Steve made people smile, made people laugh, and yes saved peoples lives. Both his brothers saved mine. I love you all, and my friends I worked with and made while being a part of the Soutee Family. Words cannot express the loss, but a life well lived deserves the best of smiles. Hats off to you Steve. DREAM BIG everyone!

Steve is one you would think would live forever, so full of life. Very gifted lawyer. Jeff Viles once stated after losing a decision against Steve that next time he would make sure Steve was on his side. You could write abook about Steve's life. My Dad, Al Houser tought the world of Steve as well as the rest of the Soutee Family.

Even after a few days to grasp everything I still can't find the words to begin to say what u meant to me over the years but I'm going to try. From advice, to covering for me as a teen, to being there when I put my wedding dress on, to being there when Roper was born, and always having just the right thing to say when I needed to hear it during the complicated times in my life...(Even if I couldn't make much sense of it because you were so intellectual) you have always and always will hold a special place. One thing you always told me was "I hope you dance" and I will dance everyday for the rest of my life remembering those words just like you told me to! I will miss you oh so much "my friend, my good friend"

I met Steve while attending SMS and enjoyed his "country" view on life. I had lost contact with Steve and last saw him in 1969 although I did receive one letter from him while in Vietnam. I fondly remember the car he drove while attending Missouri State which he named "Clarence". Rest in Peace Steve. Thanks for the fun memories.
