Obituary
The Rev. William P. Dodd, 68, of Ft. Myers Beach, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 at Shell Point Hospice Center. He was born on Dec. 25, 1933 in San Diego, CA, to William & Lois Rockhold Dodd. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peggie), children, Kathleen Dodd Roulias of Ft. Myers and Lt. Col. Alex Dodd (Christina), of Edwards, CA; seven grandchildren: Paula, Laura, Joey & Carl of Edwards, CA. and Seth, Joshua & Justin Spicer of Wellsville, NY; three nephews, The Rev. Richard Nuffer (Pat) of Ft. Wayne, IN; Russell Nuffer (Sue) of Jerusalem, AR; & James Nuffer (Jyn) of Harbor Springs, MI.
After graduation from California State College at Long Beach, CA., Father Dodd received his Masters of Divinity from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, Evanston, IL., in 1964. He was ordained Deacon (June 1964) and Priest (Dec. 1964) at Trinity Episcopal Church, Marshall, MI. He served churches in Marshall, MI; Montour Falls/Catherine, NY; & Wellsville, NY, before becoming the Executive Director of the Greater Area Bethlehem Council of Churches from 1979-86. From 1986-99, he was Rector of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church on Sanibel Island, FL. In retirement, he served three years as Rector of St. Raphael's Church, Ft. Myers Beach, FL., retiring again in June 2002.
Among other activities, Fr. Dodd served as Dean of the Ft. Myers Deanery; a member of the Episcopal Diocese Foundation, a member of Diocesan Council as well as serving on the Bishop's Selection Committee. Locally, he was a long-time president of the Below Market - Rate Housing Corp. and worked tirelessly to help start Iona-Hope Episcopal Church in Ft. Myers.
The Memorial Service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels, Sanibel, on Nov. 16, 2002, at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will follow in the St. Michael's Memorial Garden which he helped start. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to Habitat for Humanity, 1288 N. Tamiami Tr., N. Ft. Myers, FL 33903 or to Our Little Roses Foreign Mission Society, Inc., P.O. Box 464, Somerset, VA 22972. Arrangements by National Cremation Society.
