Charles Grant Obituary

Charles William "Charlie" Grant, born on October 7, 1942, in Augusta County, Va., died peacefully on April 25, 2023, in Pasadena, Md., at his home on Stoney Creek with his family by his side. Charlie adored Heather, his wife of 37 years, and was a loving and proud father and grandfather. His strength and bravery battling ESRD solidified his superhero status in the hearts of his family.

Charlie spent his youth in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Nelson County, Va. He was in construction management for over 50 years during which he founded several construction and land development companies in Northern and Central Virginia and consulted in Las Vegas and elsewhere. After retirement, Charlie enjoyed traveling with Heather, spending time with his family, friends, and neighbors, and regaling them with stories from his younger years, his career, and his travels. His family and friends often sought Charlie's thoughtful and sage guidance. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and rooted for Jeff Gordon and Chase Elliott. He found relaxing enjoyment in gardening and was very proud of the tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers he grew. Charlie loved the home he and Heather built, their wonderful neighbors, and crabbing from their dock. He was quite content having his morning coffee outside taking in the beautiful water view and enjoying the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Heather Grant (nee Rudy) and children (spouses/partners), Wesley Grant of Maggie Valley, N.C., Craig Grant (Missy Griffith) of Elm City, N.C., Lisa (John) Orman of Wilson, N.C., Stephanie Collier (Stephen Blumberg) of Arnold, Md., and Davis (Jennifer) Grant of Stafford, Va. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Joss Blumberg, Tye Grant, Craig Grant, Jr., and Brittany (John) Furrow; and three great-grandchildren, Harper Furrow, Caydance Rees, and Cierra Rees. Charlie is also survived by his brother, Larry (Shirleen) Grant of Rockledge, Fla.; sister-in-law, Frances Grant of Shipman, Va.; brother-in-law, Mike Johnson of Myrtle Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Alvis and Myrtle Grant; brother, James "Duck" Grant; and sister, Joan Johnson.

The family wishes to thank everyone who has extended thoughts, prayers, and love, and who helped during his long hospitalization. A celebration of life and casting ceremony will be held privately.
