Carrie Scott Obituary

Carrie Elliott Scott

July 18, 1941 - July 20, 2022

Mrs. Carrie Elliott Scott departed this life on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, in Farmington Hills, Michigan, surrounded by family. She was born on July 18, 1941, to the late Synethia C. Elliott and James E. Coleman in Campbell County, Virginia.

Carrie received her formal education through the Campbell County Public School system, where she became an exemplary student and developed a thirst for knowledge that would continue throughout her life. She graduated from Campbell County High School in 1958. She received a Bachelor's degree from the School of Education with a concentration in English from Virginia State University. After completing her secondary education, she worked as a K-12 teacher in the Charlotte Court House and Campbell County school systems for more than 30 years. She was a dedicated Member of Virginia State University Alumni Association, Central Virginia Chapter where she recently served as President and in a variety of leadership capacities. She was also an active member of the Virginia Retired Teachers Association. The impact she had on scores of lives throughout her career is immeasurable.

Carrie married Deacon John Willie Scott on December 21, 1963, with whom she enjoyed 52 years of holy matrimony. Out of this union, two loving daughters were born â€" Carla S. Scott and Chandra S. Lewis. She was a devoted Mother who loved and supported her children in every way. Her true source of joy was family. She was delighted to talk to and spend time with loved ones far and near, preparing for family reunions and church homecomings.

Carrie accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Green Spring Baptist Church, Brookneal. There she learned of Christ's teachings and her spiritual growth was nurtured. She faithfully served for decades as a Deaconess and devoted member of Greater Brookville Church in Lynchburg, where she worked in various capacities. She was indeed a true woman of faith and demonstrated agape love to everyone she encountered. Her life was one of loving service to God and His people, and a testament to God's greatness.

A lover of words and language, writing poetry was Carrie's true passion. She received recognition from the International Society of Poets. She was a woman of quiet strength and reserve, renowned for her words of encouragement and kind spirit. She was indeed "God's Grace in Human Form."

She leaves to cherish her life, her daughter, Chandra, and her beloved granddaughter, Cydney, both of Farmington Hills, Mich.; her cousins who she grew up with who were like siblings, Dorthula H. Hurt, Mary S. Smith and Synethia Hubbard, all of East Orange, New Jersey; half brother, Gene Tweedy of Lynchburg; beloved in-laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends.

Loved ones who preceded her in death include her mother, Synethia; father, James; her husband, John; her first born daughter, Carla; her beloved aunt, Annie, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and dearest friends.

A service to celebrate Carrie's life will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Greater Brookville Church, Lynchburg. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church starting at 11 a.m. Public viewing will begin on Friday, July 29, 2022, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Chapel of Jeffress Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Brookneal. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg, Virginia. Services may be viewed by clicking the "watch video" link at www.JeffressFuneralHome.com.

Family, our prayers and condolences are with you! Mrs. Scott was a wonderful person and I enjoyed my many years of working with her in the Otter River Baptist Sunday school convention. She was a godly woman and meticulous worker. She will be missed. We will honor her memory as a fellow laborer in Christ.

We extend our sincerest sympathy to you all! I worked with Mrs. Scott for years at Brookneal Elementary. She was a true Christian lady, excellent teacher, and co-worker. I always respected and admired hergentle spirit that reached the kids and adults. I have spoken to her from time to time since she retired, and she never lost her pleasant demeanor and hearty laugh. She will be missed by all of us she touched over years. You are in our prayers. May God give you peace and comfort along with the wonderful memories you must have.
