Daniel Ashwell Obituary

Daniel B. Ashwell, Jr.

Daniel 'Danny Boy' B. Ashwell Jr., 55 of Lynchburg was welcomed by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his father, an uncle, Wesley T. May Jr., and grandparents.

He was born, Thursday, September 11, 1969 to the late Daniel B. Ashwell Sr. and Peggy Phillips Ashwell. After graduating from Rustburg High School, he worked for many years with LSI, Lynchburg Sheltered Industries for 30 years making a lasting impact in the lives of his friends, coworkers, and aides with his smile, laugh and kindness. He also spent many years participating in the local, regional, and state Special Olympics program, excelling in swimming and track & field, earning multiple medals and ribbons for his accomplishments. Being very active and somewhat competitive, he enjoyed a game of bowling, bocce ball or basketball with his family and friends.

'Danny Boy's' love for life and his family was always evident through his smile. His flirtatious manners with the ladies were always welcomed with a big smile and a gentle hug. He was raised in Memorial Christian Church on Perrymont Ave. where for over 50 years he served as an acolyte, and honorary deacon, and helped with church events. Spring Hill Community Church would become his new church home after Memorial Christian closed. He also was a member of the Lynchburg Regional Exchange club serving in the capacity of president, vice president, chaplain, and chairman of veterans committee. 'Danny Boy's' big smile and his love for his family will be a tremendous loss to his family, as well as those who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memories; his mother, Peggy, and a brother, David Ashwell (Lori); nieces and nephews, Logan, Luke, and Taylor or as he called them "his children;" an uncle, Douglas Ashwell of Roanoke; an aunt, Stacy Sahli of Florida; and his favorite aunt, Jean May; cousins, Wesley May, and his favorite cousin Janice Claybrook (Nick); and his favorite "rugrats," Melissa Cole (Charlie), Erin Ramsey (Lucas), Cody May (Khin), Steven May, and the newest babies, Landon and Parker Ramsey.

The family will receive friends on Thursday July 24, 2025 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road.

Danny was a student of mine at Roseburg High. He was a beloved member of the high school community as well as Campbell County Special Olympics. He had a love for life and people. He he always wanted to be where the action was. He had a deep love for his family and enjoyed showing pictures of family members that he had in his wallet. His love for life was contagious. My condolences go out to the family. I am so sorry for your loss. I know it will leave a deep hole in your lives. He will always hold a special place in my heart.

Peggy, we have been out of touch for years but it doesn´t mean that Lori and I don´t remember the early Special Olympics and all the other times we weren´t surrounded by Danny´s sweet smile and loving ways. We pray for you and your loss. You certainly loved and cared for him with unfailing love!
