Dorothy Wilson Bernard

Dorothy Marie Wilson Bernard, 78, of Concord, died Friday, May 9, 2008, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Elmer Earl Bernard Sr.

Born in Lynchburg, Va. on December 4, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Clifford Eugene and Ruby Anderson Lankford Wilson.

She was preceded in death by one son, Mark Anthony Bernard and one grandson, Patrick Neil Bernard.

Survivors include two sons, Elmer E. Bernard Jr. and his wife, Cathy, and Kenneth E. Bernard Sr. and his wife, Michele, all of Lynchburg; three daughers, Ushell "Butternut" Thornburg and her husband, Charles, Sharon Bernard and her husband, Victor, and Voncille Bernard, all of Concord; three sisters, Betty Keeler and Zinny Williams, both of New Hampshire and Peggy Dudley of Rustburg; one brother, Marvin Wilson of Sespafford, Va.; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Reverend Carlton Duck. The family will receive friends following the service until 9 p.m.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Concord Rescue Squad or Whites United Methodist Church.

Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Service is serving the Bernard family.

I AM SO SORRY FOR YOU LOSS-I'LL NEVER FORGET MRS. DOROTHY--SHE TRIED TO GIVE ME HER FALSE TEETH ONE DAY!! SHE WAS A WONDERFUL LADY AND AND CARED SO MUCH FOR HER FAMILY-ALL OF HER CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WERE HER LIFE.

Hard to list all of you since I love you all dearly! I am so sorry for your loss. I have many memories of Dorothy myself from being so close to all of you- she was a very funny lady and caring person. I know you all will miss her greatly!
