Gerald Hackworth Obituary
October 18, 1942 - August 11, 2024
Gerald Kennedy Hackworth, known by all as Jerry, passed away peacefully on August 11th, surrounded by his family at the age of 81. He was a loving father and grandfather, devoted husband, and loyal friend.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Gail; son, Kenney Hackworth (Michele); daughter, Karen Coffin (Chad); and his two favorite grandchildren, Emma Hackworth and Charlie Coffin. He is also survived by his sister, Kay Arthur (Wayne) of Forest, Va.; sisters-in-law, Heidi and Frances; brother-in-law, Ron Vaughn of Oak Island, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry, born October 18, 1942, in Lynchburg, Va. was the son of the late, Eddie L. and Mabel K. Hackworth. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Ed (Heidi) of Hampton, Va., and Robert (Frances) of Forest, Va. He graduated from EC Glass High School, Lynchburg College, and the Stonier Graduate School of Rutgers University. Jerry retired as the Chief Financial Officer of LPI Technical Services after twenty-five years of service.
He enjoyed a good book, a great guitar, embellishing surf fishing trips with his team, sailing on Hobie Cats, golfing with friends, and was great company in both good and tough times. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel, 2002 Laskin Road Virginia Beach, Va. 23454.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to EDMARC Hospice for Children, 516 London St. Portsmouth, Va. 23704. Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com.

Way back in the day, I enjoyed many a Saturday night at the Parkway Inn dancing to the music of The Chasers, with Gerry on lead guitar. Those were the days, happy days. RIP, my friend.
