James Ryan Hackworth, 55, of McDermott, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at OSU Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio. He was born April 22, 1970 in Portsmouth, Ohio son of the late James William Hackworth and Rita Kathryn (Farley) Hackworth of McDermott, Ohio. On July 28, 2003 he was united in marriage to Leann Burton Hackworth who survives. Also surviving are his children, LeAnn Hackworth of Sciotoville, Ohio, Fynnlea Hewitt of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Corey Ryan Hackworth and Anna Hackworth both of McDermott; a sister, Mary Kathryn (Stephen) Auer of Cincinnati, Ohio and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his father James was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruth (Lacey) Farley and Dorothy (Bill) Hackworth; and his doggy, Jack.

James was a pipefitter with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local #577, and a realtor with Real Estate Gallery. He loved sports especially hockey and football and was a huge fan of the Raiders, Buckeyes and Reds. He loved Star Wars and was lovingly known as Chewy by his friends. He was an avid reading especially Stephen King novels. He loved music of all genres and loved spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly. Burial will follow in Scioto Burial Park in McDermott. Family will receive friends from 11:30 until 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
