Geraldine Dalton Torrence

Mrs. Geraldine Dalton Torrence died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home. She had been a resident for the past three months.

Mrs. Torrence was born in Pittsylvania County on Sept. 27, 1926, a daughter of the late Raymond Calhoun Dalton and Leona Dalton Dalton.

Mrs. Torrence was an active member of Keen Street Baptist Church for many years and later joined First Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Gretna High School and attended Averett University. Mrs. Torrence had worked at the Danville Police Department in the records division.

She was married to the late Ralph C. Torrence, who died Oct. 19, 2000. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Torrence was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Lee Torrence; sisters, Doris D. Crews and Ruth Creasy; and one brother, Morris Dalton.

Mrs. Torrence is survived by one daughter, Margaret Torrence Jones and her husband, Ricky, of Danville; two grandsons, Richard T. Jones and his fianc‚, Elizabeth Matteson, and Andrew B. Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2010, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Cook and the Rev. Joseph Northen officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today, March 28, 2010, at Townes Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence of her daughter, Margaret Torrence Jones and her husband, Ricky, 348 Updike Place.

The family would like to thank the staff of Roman Eagle Memorial Home, North East, and the staff of Stratford Health Care Assisted Living and her caregiver, Jackie Coles, for the compassionate care she received from them.
