Gilbert Goff Obituary

Gilbert Huens Goff

Gilbert Huens Goff, 82, of Faber, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law.

Born May 12, 1927, in Nelson County, he was the son of the late Dabney Goff and Julia Phillips Goff.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Purvis Goff, his five sisters, Bertha Weeks, Louise Mawyer, Margaret Pace, Amanda Phillips and Mattie Thompson and his four brothers Melvin, Dillard, Howard and Calvin Goff.

He was a retired merchant, worked at the Schuyler Soap Stone Quarry for many years, was a self-employed timber man and logger and most of all a very witty and admired individual in the Faber community.

Mr. Goff is survived by his only son, Larry Goff, and his wife, Pam, of Faber; his grandchildren, Tanner and Lauren Goff of Faber and Tiffany Savage and her husband, Brandon, of Buckingham; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Ethan Savage, of Buckingham; and a special loving niece, Linda Beverly.

To all his dear and very special nieces and nephews whom paid him daily visits and gave of their love and comfort, the family thanks them on Gilbert's behalf as it meant all the world to him.

A special thanks to Dr. Denise Williams and her staff at Southern Albemarle Family Center and Dr. Maya Ghaemmaghami and the staff of the Hope Center.

In keeping with Gilbert's wishes, a simple graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. John P. Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Social Hall of the Faber Fire Deptartment and Rescue Squad building and suggests that memorials take the form of donations to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Charlottesville, VA 22911.

Friends may call at the funeral home anytime today, Aug. 7, 2009.
