James Dudding Obituary

James Preston Dudding

James Preston Dudding was born October 24, 1950 in Bloomington, IN to John O. Dudding of Roanoke, VA and Denise M. Jovelet Dudding of Paris, France, both of whom preceded him in death.

Jim, as his friends and family knew him, had been bravely battling late-stage cancer since he was diagnosed in February 2011. He was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife, Valerie. He passed away on June 3, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Hurst Dudding of Ruckersville, VA, and his sons, Joseph James Dudding and Michael Patrick Dudding of Brooklyn, NY. Additionally, Jim is survived by his brother, William A. Dudding and wife Robin Dudding of Midlothian, VA; his sister, Linda S. Brown and husband Bob Cox of Lynchburg, VA; and his nieces and nephews: Jon, Leigh, Zoey, and Chris Dudding, Morgan Russell, Ryan Roark, Bradley and Ashley Carner, Kate Nash, and David, Brent, and Ella Wesolowski.

Jim lived most of his life in Lynchburg, VA, and spent the last ten years in Ruckersville, VA. He attended Brookville High School and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in economics in 1974. After working at B&W for ten years, he joined his brother as a manufacturer's representative with Duhart Co., and later became partner in the company. Jim will be remembered as the life of the party, someone who loved his family and friends, good food and travel, golfing and fishing, the occasional practical joke, and, of course, a splash of Crown Royal. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gordon Morris and the staff at the Martha Jefferson Cancer Care Center, the Martha Jefferson Interventional Radiology department, and his Continuum home health care nurse, Lee Klempner. The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of Jim's life at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 7th at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, in Charlottesville, VA.

I knew Jim very well. He was a good person. His son and my daughter went to school together. I am sorry to see him pass! It is getting so that every week someone I know passes. I remember my Dad telling me about this when he was my age. So sad.

Val,
what can we say... words just can't express the great sorrow we all feel for the loss of Jimbo! What a great guy - caring, loving, sincere, larger than life and always the life of the party! He will be missed by all.
He has shown such great strength and endurance throughout this terrible battle..so courageous. We applaud the both of you for the fight!
Someone told me recently that when you speak of someone who has past...that for that instant and moment in time - they are alive again -so, while there are many, many, friends, family and acquaintances - Jimbo will live on forever with us - always. With Love, Jerry & Amy Lanham

May Jim's memory give you peace. I have only seen him once or twice since high school, but I have fond memories. Even the one where he talked me into taking Latin. One of the best folks I was priviledged to know.

I was a long time client of Jims and have spent more than a few days on the golf course with him over the years. I was aware of his illness and prayed that he would get better. i came in this morning to find his obituary in an email, and i just cant seem to wrap my head around his passing. I am so sorry for your loss and I cant imagine how you all are feeling. may he rest in peace and may you all find some sence of comfort in the fact that he is with our lord. He was larger than life and one of a kind. I will miss him.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He used to call on my husband as a sells rep when we lived in Maryland. Jim was a very kind and loving guy. He alway made us laugh so hard sometimes that we cried. I have followed Jim's illness on caringbridge. He was one strong willed man. May God take Jim in his loving arms. Rest in Peace Jim you will be greatly missed by all. Praying for your family and asking God to hold them through this rough time.

I don't have the adequate words to express my sorrow in Jim's passing. I remember Jim as a sweet and funny guy at Brookville High. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad time. May God wrap his arms around you all at this time.

Linda,
Words are so inadequate at a time like this. Please know you and your family are in my sincere thoughts and prayers. Hoping you all find comfort in God's word, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." I'm sorry for your loss.
May Jim rest in peace and rise in glory.
