Jane Reynolds Obituary

Jane Byers Reynolds

Jane Byers Reynolds of Rustburg passed on to her heavenly home Tuesday, June 25, 2024, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the second daughter of Edd and Yvonne Byers, and was born in Richmond in 1956, while her father was attending Union Seminary to be ordained as a Presbyterian minister. She was a cradle to grave Presbyterian, having grown up as a child of the manse and a preacher's kid while her dad served Presbyterian churches in South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina. Some of her fondest memories were growing up in Hinesville, GA, where she made lifelong friends. She graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC and met her future husband, Larry Reynolds, through mutual friends. Shortly after they were married, they moved back to Larry's hometown of Rustburg, where they celebrated 50 years of marriage. She began her 38-year career with Nationwide Insurance as a Claims Manager, and where she again made lifelong friends.

She and Larry raised two sons, Lee Reynolds (Tiffany) of Kingsport, TN and Andrew Reynolds of Palmyra, who were dearly loved along with four beloved grandchildren, Clay and Kristen Reynolds of Kingsport, TN and Jackson and Thompson Reynolds of Palmyra. Family and church were always Jane's top priorities. She raised her boys in Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, and when Covenant closed, she moved her membership to Quaker Memorial Presbyterian where her passion for service was Missions, serving on the Fellowship and Endowment Committees, supporting the church's Earthcare initiatives and working in the church garden. She will be greatly missed by her church family who have provided much support during her illness.

In addition to her mother, husband, children and grandchildren, she is survived by a sister, Susan Manning of Davidson, NC; a brother, Dean Byers and his wife, Elizabeth Polk of Edenton, NC; three dear nieces, Ashley Gower (Bobby) of Clayton, NC, Tiffany Fremder (Michael) of Apex, NC, and Brittany Kicklighter (Adam) of Harrisburg, NC; six great-nieces and nephews; many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jane cherished her extended family and loved spending time with them traveling the world and enjoying annual beach vacations.

She will be greatly missed by many close friends from Nationwide, her Winton golf buddies where she enjoyed playing in the women's golf league after her retirement from Nationwide, the extended Bost family connections, and lifelong friends from South Georgia.

The family would like to give their sincere heartfelt thanks to Westminster Hospice, Lynchburg Oncology, and UVA Oncology for their loving care and support.

A celebration of Jane's life will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church by Rev. Anghaarad Dees with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg.

Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory, 427 Graves Mill Road (434) 239-2405 is assisting the family. Memories and thoughts may be shared with the family at www.heritagefuneralandcremation.com.

A sister from another mister, I grew up in Jane´s and her family´s backyard. Mr and Mrs B were second parents to me and my sisters. James dad married my husband and me 40 years ago and Jane´s dad baptized my oldest son, both significant life events at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Chirch in Raleigh NC. Jane was a kind and gentle soul gone much too soon. My heart breaks for her family in mourning such a loss. Rest in peace sweet Jane. Celia Powell Liebl

Jane, you are such a special person in my life. You are truly one of the steel magnolias. You approached life without a lot of fanfare but you knew your path and you stayed vigilant and true to your objective. You and Larry raised two incredible sons who are in turn raising children of their own. Your legacy will never die. I love you like a sister and shall see you in heaven. Peace dear friend, Susan

Jane was funny, generous with her time, her heart and had a fierce passion for those she cared for. I had the privilege of working with Jane for many years at Nationwide Ins. She was smart and an excellent coach and teacher.
The world is not as bright anymore without Jane. I will always miss her smile and I will miss her calling me "Gerber". I don´t think she ever used my first name and that always made me smile. Good bye, my friend. You will always be a part of me.

Jane was a very special person, so giving and thoughtful. She loved life and her family and friends. I will cherish my many memories of Jane and our 45 year friendship. She was a devout Christian and helped me in my faith journey. Jane will be sorely missed but I know she is in heaven and at peace now.
