Joan Anderson Obituary

Joan Evans Anderson

December 11, 1946 - August 30, 2024

Joan E. Anderson, age 77 of Lynchburg, Virginia peacefully passed away on September 30, 2024 at her home. She was born on December 11, 1946, to the late Thomas Reed Evans and Maude (Viar) Evans.

Joan was a 1965 graduate of Brookville High School. In her younger years of marriage, she raised a family, was a hobbyist seamstress (making her children's clothing) and a wonderful homemaker. Later, she worked various retail positions and ultimately retired from the DMV after many years of service.

Joan was an avid reader, a lover of home decor/remodeling projects, hummingbirds and miniature schnauzers. When she wasn't with her family or walking her dog, she was sprucing up her home decor. Joan and her late husband of 58 years-Dave- did most of the home improvement projects themselves. She had an extremely keen eye for home style. But above all, Joan will be remembered for her kindness and the never-ending giving of herself to her family and friends.

She is survived by: her seven year old miniature schnauzer, Beau, her children: daughter, Dawn (Anderson) Gardner and husband Mike of Manassas, Virginia; son David Mark Anderson and wife Kristin of Oakland, Michigan; son Todd Anderson and wife Cathy of Forest, Virginia; son, Randy Johnson of Madison Heights, Virginia.

Her grandchildren: Erin Coleman, Rachel Dugger, Melaina Gardner, Nolan Anderson, Josh Anderson, Lauren Anderson, Madison Anderson and Hailey Anderson. Her great grand-children: Gabe, Micah, Noah, Tripp, Cassidy, Cory and Miko. Joan is also survived by her sibling: sister, Barbara Evans Walker. Her nieces and nephew, Paula, Cara and Chris Walker.

Her siblings by marriage: Jerry Anderson and wife Fran of Tarpan Springs, Florida; Sue (Anderson) White and husband Rennie of Lynchburg; Laura Campbell and husband Ken of Hurt, Virginia.

Saddened to learn of Joan´s passing. My husband and I became close friends with Dave and Joan when we all lived at Timberlake in rental homes in the late 1960s. Many evenings were spent sitting around the coffee table playing Rook. Dawn was a toddler who took a fancy to my husband. I loved your parents then and cherish memories of both now.

I am saddened to see the death of Joan whom I´ve known since 1956. We were close friends from the 4th grade through high school and attended the same church for years. I extend my condolences to the entire family and especially to Barbara. The three of us lived on Leesville Road for years.
