December 21, 1960 - August 11, 2024
Joseph William Souza, Jr., 63, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024, at his home. He was the husband of Deborah Tuck Souza.
Joseph was born in Norfolk, VA, December 21, 1960, a son of the late Joseph William Souza, Sr. and the late Bernadine McCane Souza. He retired from the City of Lynchburg and was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Joseph Russell Souza (Brandy) of Rustburg and Brandy Michelle Brust (Jeremy) of Madison Heights; grandchildren, Dalton and Faith Brust, and Kylee, Austin and Payton Souza; brothers, Rodney Souza (Donna) of Delaware, Steven Souza (Angie) and son Anthony, of Madison Heights and John Souza of Massachusetts; sisters, Sharon Akkawi (Mustapha) and Nancy McSweeney (Ricky), all of Massachusetts; mother-in-law, Shirley Tuck; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Scearcy (Stuart); and a best friend for many years, John Evans. He was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Souza; and father-in-law, Rev. Russell Tuck. A special thank you to a cousin, Lisa Rosser.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, August 16, 2024, by Rev. Jeff Whorley and Deacon Gary Thompson at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel in Brookneal with burial to follow in Fort Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the home.
Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal is assisting the family.

I'm so very sorry to hear about Joey. I loved him very much. I remember riding the train with Mama to Norfolk when he was born. I will miss him so much.
