Kenneth Richardson Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Wayne Richardson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, on February 29, 2024, at the age of 78. He was surrounded by his loving family when he went into the arms of Jesus.

Kenneth was born on October 3, 1945, to the late Walter and Lucy Beale Richardson. He grew up in a large and close-knit family, with seven siblings and many cousins. He attended Appomattox County High School, where he met the love of his life, Gloria Ranson. They married in 1965 and had three children, Kenny, Danny, and Matt.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Virginia Richardson, Louise Wood, and Margaret Garrison; a brother, Dick Richardson; and his beloved granddaughter Cassidy.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria, his children, Kenny (Kim) Richardson, Danny (Adele) Richardson, and Matt (Jamie) Richardson; his grandchildren, Cole, Camden, Bailey, Noah, Virginia Beale, and Caleb; his siblings, Walter (Mildred) Richardson, Randolph (Beth) Richardson, and Sandra Burge; and his "brother" Ronnie (Cindy) Ranson as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Kenneth was a selfless Christian servant, who dedicated his life to helping others. He worked for UPS for 30 years, delivering packages with a smile and a friendly word. He also drove a school bus for Appomattox County Public Schools for 25 years, transporting generations of students safely and cheerfully. He was a faithful member of Piney Ridge Methodist Church. He was always ready to lend a hand, a listening ear, or a word of encouragement to anyone in need.

Kenneth enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his seven grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He loved gardening and watching sports. He was a loyal fan of the Virginia Cavaliers, White Sox, Lakers, Colts, and Hampden Sydney Tigers. He had a great sense of humor and a warm personality that touched so many lives.

Kenneth will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a wonderful man who left a lasting legacy of kindness, generosity, and faithfulness. He is now resting in peace with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Baptist Church, with Pastor Eric Hernandez and Pastor David Drinkard officiating. Interment will follow at Piney Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW # 9855 combined honor guard.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer www.alexslemonade.org.

Robinson Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family. An online condolence may be sent by visiting www.robinsonfuneral.com.

A piece of my heart will go with you Uncle Kenneth. I know God has his plan, but it was way to soon for me. I can only think God needed another angel at his right side. R.I.P.

Kenneth was a great guy whenever I saw him we laughed and talked about playing softball for Rocks Baptist Church. Kenneth, Gary Wagner, Aulden Roach and myself opened the last game by signing the National Anthem before the game. Guess who's idea it was to sign, yes Kenneth's. He will be greatly missed.

My heart was heavy to hear of Kenneths passing. My prayers to all the family. Kenneth was a staple parent of my childhood at Liberty. He was always friendly. The memory that makes me smile is when he dressed up as Barney for my son, Drew's, 2nd birthday party! He was a hit!!! He jumped up really high in the house and hit his head! It was so funny. He sang Barney songs and just had fun with it. He will be remembered fondly.
