It's with the deepest sympathy that I submit this to the family of Ms. Mary Payne. Ms. Payne was a friend of my mother, (the late Ms. Doretha Stamps Tracy) and the entire Stamps family, all who were members of Court Street Baptist Church for many years. I can imagine Ms. Payne and my late uncle L. Garnell Stamps putting together some type of program in the heavenly skies, where we all hope to see them again. Condolences to John, Marvin and Betty.

Mary Payne was a friend to my mother Fannie Butler Perry. She and my mom in later years kept in touch through greeting cards. I´ve known her for a few years, and have kept in touch through cards. She always had a kind word to share. Her smile is what I remember most.
May God continue to guide and strengthen her family. Peace, Love!!

Ma Payne was more than just a great church member to my family and I she was "family" to us. We enjoyed her words of encouragement and prayers. She always asked about our children and to us she was like a fairy godmommy or adopted gamma. We truly are going to miss you. Indeed you were loved and we were lucky. What are blessings for so many. Love you

Mary Payne was one of the kindest church members at Court Street Baptist Church. She never had an unkind word to say to anyone. She made sure that she asked how you were doing. She used to make me fill good inside. When our mother died she spoke so eloquently, at her service. It touched all of our hearts. I know that I am saying what others have shared. I just wanted to let her know how important she was to me. Court Street Baptist Church will never be the same. Thank you so much.
Love,

Mary Payne's life spoke for itself. She was a devoted member of the Lynchburg Chapter of the NAACP, a civil rights activist, a committed community leader and a woman like no other. This community will forever be in her debt for the difference she made. Surely Heaven has gained an angel like no other but her memory and her dedication will live on. Our condolences to her family.

My condolences to the family. Mary Payne was a fighter. I knew her in the late 1960's when I was teaching Art in Dearington. She organized a group of women and fought City Hall to stop routing garbage trucks through the development to create a dump, bringing trash and snakes to the area. She fought for greater opportunities for children living in poverty. She worked in voter registration and was a warrior for Civil Rights. I admired her courage and spirit. We remained in contact over the years. She loved her children. We remained in contact over the years. I will miss her.
