Mathilda G. Poehner, 94, of Lynchburg, Va. and Johnstown, Pa., died on February 5, 2021, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert William Poehner.

She is survived by daughter, Karen Poehner Murphy and her husband, Toby, of Lynchburg; and her son, Robert William Poehner Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Roanoke. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mark Murphy, Lauren Phelps and her husband, Eric, Ryan Murphy and his wife, Kelsey and Leah Ogle and her husband, Matt; three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Ida and Hadley, and her fourth great-grandchild who will be born this July.

Til was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed and married and Bethlehem Lutheran Church (Lynchburg). Member of and volunteer for Westmont Hilltop Band Boosters, West Suburban Little League, YWCA and Helping Hands Clothes Closet. She was employed by US Steel as a comptroller, O'Sheas Candy and Gift Store as well as Westmont Hilltop Schools.

"Til" was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was known as a "prayer warrior" with faith that was endless. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends as her strong faith, will and determination served as an example to all.

The family of "Til" Poehner would like to thank the staff of Bedford County Nursing Home for the kind and generous care they provided during her stay.

A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lynchburg at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
