Robert Laurant Obituary

Robert Darrell Laurant

October 8, 2024

R. Darrell Laurant, 76, a resident of Lake George, NY, transitioned to his next adventure on October 8, 2024.

His goal was to be a bridge uniting opposing views through his gift of writing. He accomplished this through his many years as a columnist in Lynchburg, VA as well as authoring several books.

His family includes his loving wife, Gail: his son, Jeremy, and his wife, Hannah, and their daughter, Pele; his daughter, Cindee Layne and her husband, Wallace, and their children, Zachary, Chloe, and Nathan.

His bright light will continue to shine in all the hearts he touched personally and through his writing.

Many thanks and great gratitude to the wonderful earth angels working in the ICU department at Glens Falls Hospital, who helped make his transition a peaceful one.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

For those who wish, online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.sbfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Rd, Queensbury, NY.

Gail and family, I am so sorry to hear of Darrell's passing. We were coworkers at the newspaper back in the 80s-90s. Not only was he an amazing writer he was a kind man. I had many conversations with him. I cannot imagine what a loss this is for you all. Know that you have my deepest sympathy and you will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

Always enjoyed Darrell's columns and books (even if he didn't know about chitlins!) He contributed so much to the Central Virginia community and beyond, his talents were immense. So sorry to learn of his passing. Prayers for all who loved him.

Always enjoyed reading his articles and books about things in Lynchburg area my late dad was also a fan .we need more news writers like him now more than ever he could see both sides and report facts unlike the political polarized trash we see now unfortunately

I always enjoyed meeting with Darrel - and reading his wonderful column (even when he described me in print as a "curmudgeon!") His curiosity about everything gave each and every one of his columns a freshness and vitality that made him both a phenomenal writer and human being. He also did me a great favor when he wrote a column on my massage therapy practice, which brought the business a good bit of attention! And his columns on Masters Swimming and Golden Olympics swimmer June Gillespie - these were very helpful to the YMCA during tough financial times.

You made an impact, Darrel! A good one.
