Shawn Thacker Obituary
Shawn Michael Thacker, 15, of 1301 Broad Street, Altavista died unexpectedly, on Saturday, July 2, 2011 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was the son of Kelly Thacker and his wife Janet of Altavista and Tammie Perkins Thacker of Hurt.
He was born August 10, 1995 in Lynchburg, a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and would have been a rising sophomore at Altavista High School. Shawn was a member of the JV Football team, played baseball with the YMCA Youth League, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, floating the river and hanging out with his many friends.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Candi Rachelle Matherly of Hurt and Amber Leigh Thacker of Altavista; his grandparents, Alice Joan Kelly Thacker of Altavista, Rachel Keller of Hurt and his step-grandparents, Larry and Delma Scruggs; his uncle and aunts, Robert "Bobby", Timmy, Steven and Kenny Thacker, Tina Dudley, Penny Owens, Joyce Thomasson and Donna Dalton; a nephew, Evan Gibson and many cousins and friends he cherished and who will miss him greatly.
Preceding him in death were his grandfathers, Robert Lee Thacker, Sr. and John Perkins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2011 at New Prospect Baptist Church by the Rev. Brady Willis and Rev. Lynn Marstin with interment to follow in Mount Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
