Steve, I’ve often wondered how you were and what great projects you were mastering. I just now discovered your presence here has long been quiet. Since I left Lynchburg in 2007 I have been out of the loop. Best wishes to your loved ones and rest in God’s embrace.

As a former Portraits South associate in Tallahassee FL, I not only had the privilege of working with Steve on clients' commissions, but also he painted our son Hayes' fabulous portrait. He was a wonderful man and I always enjoyed our conversations, which often turned to sons since we each had two. Know how much I'm thinking of you in your great loss... Most sincerely,

Wendy Robertson

Dear, dear Steve, you and I are the closest connection to older cousins and the next set of younger cousins on our Mothers side. Of course, we have always been connected because our birthdays are two days apart. Over the years when we had occasion to talk by phone, whatever we had called the other about ended by reminiscing about those times when we were carefree, happy, energetic kids in a kid's paradise, otherwise known as a beach in Wisconsin. Other, younger, cousins have memories of a similar paradise, a different beach in Wisconsin, but you and I still remembered that first beach. Now I have no one to share those memories.
Both of us had experienced the pain of divorce and the growing strong after the pain. You told me the sweet story about when you decided you were ready, you prayed for someone special to come into your life. As an answer, Kyle appeared. I then heard the happiness, the love and the new found energy in your voice. I knew your prayer had been truly answered.
I have often said that human beings ought to be genetically engineered to have a wonderful life and die peacefully in our sleep.....but at 103 years of age, not 68!!!!
How, oh how, did you get cheated out of getting your dreams, your dreams with Kyle and your dreams with your sons fulfilled??? I know that railing against the Universe is pointless, but it is so, so; frustratingly so sad.
I shall miss you dear cousin. But, I cannot begin to imagine the loss, and sadness that Kyle, Jed, Sam and your family is struggling with. I know you are at peace. But those you left behind....... Love

Dear Kyle, I am thinking so much about you and about the wonderful artist and fun man that God has shared with you and so many others of us. Sam and Jed dearly appreciate you, and I'm quite sure that I shall also do so! I look forward to knowing you, and rejoice that you and your dearest Steve could share 8 years together! My love and admiration pour out to you now, and I pray that the comfort of our beloved Lord will sustain you during this difficult and transitional time. With heartfelt love, Carole Lynchburg, VA
