Victoria Mitchell Obituary

Victoria "Anne" Mitchell of Forest, VA died on October 17, 2022 at her home. Anne was unexpectedly diagnosed with a glioblastoma in August.

Anne is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Mike Scharnus of Rustburg and Linda and John Martin of Lynchburg; her grandchildren, Kate and Mitchell Martin, Abby and Clayton Forren (Samantha Thacker), and Delaney Scharnus; her dear, devoted friend, Pat Stadtherr; in-laws Preston and Lynn Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Basil Mitchell; by her parents Ressie Kate Marsh and John Melvin Marsh; her beloved siblings Gracie (Arnold Boley), Sis (Jim Irby), Junior (Millie), Owen (Alease), Ted (Helen), Lester (Shirley), and Dot (Billy Brooks); and her brother-in-law, Owen Mitchell.

Anne graduated from Altavista High School in 1958 and then worked for GE for many years. Her primary career was serving as guidance secretary at Rustburg High School for over 30 years, where she enjoyed being in the building daily with both her children and grandchildren, and with many coworkers and students who became lifelong friends.

Anne's greatest delight was her family and friends. She savored her titles of "Mama" and "Nonnie" and cherished her time with her "babies." She is unmistakably adored by them. Though she attended every game, production, graduation, party, and event of importance to her kids; though she cooked Sunday dinners for decades in her kitchen; though she spent years' worth of hours talking, laughing, joking, shopping, sitting, and simply being with them, her family knows it could have never been enough. They are honored to have loved and been loved by Anne Mitchell.

Her family would like to thank many special friends and extended family who have been especially devout in the 11-weeks of her illness, and over the many seasons of life. They share in Anne's deep affection for Pat Stadtherr, who deserves great credit for his commitment to Anne for all the years they shared together through the very end.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 p.m., today, Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road and other times at the residence of her daughter Rhonda.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with burial to follow in Wesleybury United Methodist Church Cemetery, Gladys.

In lieu of flowers, please consider All Access International (www.allaccessinternational.org), 705 Timbercreek Drive, Hurst, TX 76093 in her memory.
