Wayne Reid Obituary

Wayne Kent Reid

Wayne Kent Reid, 85, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

Born on September 29, 1939, in Pittsylvania County, Wayne was the son of the late Gordon Thomas Reid and Bernice Shields Reid.

A proud veteran, Wayne served the United States Army. After his military service, he dedicated over 30 years of hard work and loyalty to C & P Telephone Company before retiring. Wayne remained active in the workforce, at both Fisher Auto Parts and Advance Auto Parts.

Wayne was also a gifted and passionate musician, known for his remarkable ability to play anything with strings, along with several other instruments. His love for music, especially bluegrass and gospel, was a defining part of his life. In recent years, he found great joy in playing with the Epperson Brothers and Claude Logwood and friends, times that brought him and those around him much happiness.

A man of deep faith, Wayne and his wife attended Calvary Cross Baptist Church.

He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, Papa and Grand Papa.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Brenda Joy Hall Reid; his daughter, Amanda Reid Godsey and her husband, Stephen whom her father thought of as a son; three grandchildren, Ashton Godsey Phillips and her husband, Neal, Adam Godsey (Wednesday Hertzberg) and Amelia Godsey; one great-grandchild, Hudson Reid Phillips; two brothers, R. Michael Reid (Sylvia) and Tommy Reid; and one sister, Sheila R. Giles (Roger).

A service celebrating his life and faith will be conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, July 21, 2025 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Wayne Hudson officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Hurt.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Calvary Cross Baptist Church or to the Campbell County Rescue Squad.

Mr. Reid was such a great friend to me throughout our careers at Advance Auto. It was an honor being his boss as he was always a hard worker and open to learning. He had a memorable laugh. Fly high Mr Reid!

I am so sorry about Wayne passing. So many fond memories of him at Grace Baptist. He was such a wonderful person and his faith always was an example to me to a wonderful Christian. We know where he is today. I am sure Mom and Dad were very happy to greet him. With much love, Nancy Wood-Arthur

Brenda, Mandy and family. So sorry about Wayne. He was a dear friend and one of the finest gentleman I ever knew. Loved him like a brother. We had great times together, especially centered in church life.
I regret that health issues will prevent my being able to attend the Celebration of Life service. I will be there in heart.
It is comforting to know that Wayne is with Jesus and likely be in playing in a heavenly Blue Grass praise band.
My prayers for all of you from Wayne´s "little buddy".

My dear friend Wayne. First Gentleman to offer me a hand many years ago when we moved to Virginia and bought our first property on 662. Over the years offering me advice on my hot rod cars. Seeing him at Auto Advance offering his advice which was always spot on. Then when we built back in this development he was always there with a friendly hello. We were both military Veterans. We had a lot in common. I´m going to miss you old friend!!!
