As the new kid in the 6 th grade, I was chubby, an easy target for the "bullies" and "wanna be bullies", I knew no one, so isolated. One day the crowd gathered around to harass me. On that day Cory came right up to me and he friends with me, and that defused the crowd. I had a friend~! Thank you Cory, I still smile when I see your picture and or think of you~!

As I look at the designations below of how I knew Cory it occurs to me that anyone even casual acquaintances would have considered him a friend as he was one of the friendliest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was kind and generous to nearly everyone and so fondly remembered as such to this day and forever. It is heartwarming to see that he lives on in his son Collin today with the same broad smile, humility and service to community.

Hey Cor. How many names you had for me. John. Ranzo. Ronzoni. Juan Randazo. I can still hear your voice. Lol.
Time marches on, memories linger. Can´t believe it´s been so long yet it seems like yesterday we were hanging out.
I spent a day with Collin in July. It was cool. He was older now so I could tell some of the stories that I held back cause he was too young.
He´s gonna be an old salt like the old man and capt Bill. Lol

Five years and we all see you in your son, keep beaming a light on him--it's working...(somewhat!) :-) But really, you would be very proud of him growing up into a man formed by your memory, your friends and his family. I miss your smile Cor--but oh I am so glad I danced all those crazy dances with you, makes me smile. Until we see each other again, give my best to all and hold down the partying up there, until I get there. ;-)

Dear Cory.. Well the big one has kinda destroyed us in Freeport but all of us are ok please continue to watch over all of us as we rebuild our homes and lives... I never could have dreamed the amount of chaos and destruction caused by mother nature its like something you see on tv that happens to someone else.. I seem to be on the 10 year plan with god.. The fire 10 years ago was a walk in the park compared to this.. I hope he doesn't give me locusts and famine in another 10 years... You would be so proud of all Freeport pulling together during this disaster... I miss you everyday and I finally got a tattoo first and only in memory of you and plan to go with pricilla for the one she wants.. Your son is the mirror image of you in all ways... Well most anyhow ... As we all try and put our lives back together you and Kenny H please watch over us and keep us safe.. Love always your nurse xxoo

Well, Cory, it is mindboggling that today has been one year since the accident that rocked all of us on the crick. As I've written many times before on this page, Michael and I miss you so. Sometimes I think it is so much harder for Michael on a day to day basis, as he saw you pretty much everyday...he talks about you so much and just misses his friend immensely, as do I. As you know. Priscilla and Collin are holding up, I'm sure that is thanks to the strength you give them. Keep it up, they need to know your here is spirit. We will honor you today and tonight and raise our glasses to you! Thanks for sending us a sign now and then, I think our new pet seal behind the Tavern may be one of them, he visits everyday! We will continue to do everything we can for Priscilla and Collin, so don't worry, they have lots of love and support around them. Our Capt., our crab, our dear friend...peace to you always! With love

Cory,
Tomorrow will be a year to the day. So much is being done to keep your memory “alive”. I have lived in Florida now for 30 years and I must say I am so very impressed with your friends. Your loved ones! Some in groups and some individually have taken it upon themselves to look after Collin & Priscilla and carefully place them under their wings. I believe with their help and support they will continue to become stronger by the day. I am personally looking forward to reading the memory book and listening to the taped interviews on the radio station. Being in Florida so long I continue to learn how much you accomplished over the years. Your son is so “YOU”. I wish I could be at Hurricane Harry's tomorrow evening to hear the stories told by all but I will just have to reminisce some of my own and raise my glass to toast you. I will make it a double . One for you & one for me. Tomorrow will be a very hard day although it is somewhat comforting to know you are with your parents and Suzy. Big Mike too! Give them a kiss for me. Well until we meet again my friend … I trust I will see you when I get there.
All my love,
DANA

Mornin Cory,
Wrote a message to you yesterday an this morning got a call questioning about what I had said from a very close an dear friend of ours. She said I should explain so everyone who reads it will understand. Here goes it folks!
Last summer after Cory's passing I took Collin his son up to Maine with me on vacation. My friend George ( Pee Wee) an his wife Tammy invited us out on their lobster boat, just to haul enough bugs for a yard party at their house that afternoon.
We accepted the invite an me an Collin an a young local boy named Jake also 10 yrs old were on the stern of George an Tammy's down easter. George was at the heim Tammy was port side runnin the trap line an the boys were banding the lobsters on the stern deck.Thats putting the rubber bands on the lobsters claws,an I was on the transom an thought of speakin to you Cory. What a beautiful day in a beautiful place (Stonnington Harbor Maine) on the stern of my friends lobster boat watching your son an his new friend workin together to bring the catch home so we could all enjoy. Within a few minutes Tammy shouted hey everyone come here an look at this. We all gathered on the rail port side an looked over board an just 5 feet off the side of the boat were 2 adult porpoise just with their heads out of the water lookin at all of us for a count of 15 to 20 seconds then they dove under the boat an disappeared.Tammy an George looked at each other an then to us an they said they had never seen nor heard of anyone else that had seen that in this small New England fishing village.
Then I told George an Tammy that I was just talkin to Cory an what I was saying to him. They both looked a me an said that was Cory for sure saying hello an thanking us! I said could they have been after the bait, my friends said no way they don't eat. that.
We all confronted Collin about it, boat drfting in neutral in this picture perfect view on the water an said Collin that was your Dad saying hello an he thought for a moment closed one eye an smiled lookin over at Jake an then to all of us an nodding his head yup! It was a special moment on a great day.l We returned to George an Tammy's house feasting on the bounty with friends an family talkin about what we had witnessed an watchin Collin eating the largest catch by himself. Great day!
Again I will never forget you an will continue my conversations with you until we meet again!
Love Your Friend,
DANA

It's been a year since we heard that laugh that still echos on bay and down the canal.
Your memory is alive with the family you left behind. Your beautiful son wears your smile and attitude very well. He walks talks and stands like you. He wants only to be like you. He has learned many things in his short time with you and this he will carry forever into the future. I have no doubt that he will continue what you have begun. Your life continues to touch all that knew you.

The first year is the hardest, although the feeling never goes away; time does allow me to visit my memories without as much sorrow. It seems to me the best go too young, and Cory you were definitely taken too soon.
I love spending time with your son because he reminds me so much of you. I hope and pray he will take all you taught him and remember it well and long. I will help him keep your memory alive and well for as long as I walk this earth. You should be very proud of him as he knows what is good about life and does his best. We are all there for him as I know you are too by watching over him.
Big hugs to you my friend and brother, and save me a dance for when we meet again. xxoo

Priscilla is doing great an we are all so proud of her.. She looked beautiful .. Your Irish redhead!!!! I need to add that Christmas without your smoked salmon was just not right.. Still expect you to come up the walk to my house and yell at the top of your lungs hey nurse ratchet you alive in there???? Hope you are sailing on the ships of heaven with Kenny... Xxoo your nurse

Cory:
Your memorial on the Capt. Lou was a much needed day for all of us to say good bye to our Capt. of the Crick (although you will NEVER be far from our thoughts and will ALWAYS be in our hearts). It was a beautiful evening and a beautiful send off. You are now officially with the sea (along with some Capt. Morgan). It was a hard, emotional rollercoaster of a day, some beautiful words spoken and having TRW serve you your final drink on the crick was something very special, something he certainly was proud to do! We miss you so much, Mr. Crabs, send us a signal....we'll throw you a line!!!
Always in our hearts!

Remembering a Man, a Legend, a Hero.
A Man that was caring and willing to do whatever it took to help all that crossed his path.
Cory Weyant was this man.
A hero to his son, A legend to his friends.
When Cory entered a room everyone knew he was there. He entertained with his stories of which he had many.
Cory Weyant, you are missed and your memory will forever fill our hearts.
To the entire Weyant family I wish you memories of good times that last forever.

I met Cory for the first time when I was a 16 year old kid, working at Two Cousins Fish Market, when he came in to sell some smoked eels. With his loud nasal twang, his easy going demeanor, and his big smile, he was a guy you instantly felt a kinship with. I grew to know Corey over the years growing up and working on The Canal, and always liked and got along with him. And even after leaving the 'port to move upstate, whenever I would run into him on one of my trips back to LI, we always had time for a laugh and a drink. The heart of Woodcleft Avenue has been taken away. And will forever be sorely missed. Rest easy, my friend.

To a man I never knew, but shared my name. In all sincerity,
When he shall die
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make the face of heav'n so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.

The first time I met Cory I was a new bartender @ The Sportsman. I was behind the bar, and he came barreling in with a bucket of crabs which he procedeed to throw on and behind the bar... Waiting for my responce... I calmly collected the crabs, (along with the help of Billy, and some other kind souls taking pity on me. I told him "Cory, I live on a houseboat, its gonna take more than a bucket of crabs to shake me up..." I'd like to think I gained a little respect from him that day, and scince then, we have been friends... He was a great man, a one of a kind, and an amazing leader..... He will be missed by so many. Things really will never be the same down there....

A whisper in the wind of the stories you have told.
The crashing of the waves of how much it hurts that you are gone.
The spray of the water on our faces letting us know you are still here.
The beautiful Sunrise that shows the happiness of knowing we are all caring for those you loved so much that were left behind.
You will forever be in our hearts and minds.
XOXOXO We will all miss you so much!

CORY... you certainly lived your life to the fulliest...as I knew you always would...you touched so many lives along the way ... I really feel blessed to have been a part of yours. Collin is a wonderful little boy and I will keep him in my prayers always. I know from the photos that the bond you both shared was "one of a kind" just as you are "one of a kind." I know with all the stories you must have shared he will be his fathers son - his namesake... Thanks for all the memories ... I'll see you when I get there ...Godspeed my friend. Love you

Cory,
You will be missed. I'll always remember the time you found me hunting near your point blind near the bridge and the white boat. We hit it off, and we had lunch and lifted a few back at Ehrharts, then you showed me all the blinds, hidden ponds and the boat. Your generosity that day and the open invite for years to come are priceless. The good times hunting with you and Billy, the non stop stories, jokes and belly laughs, these are the times I will carry forever.I pray that you join up with your loved ones and that Billy and your other friend recover. I pray for Priscilla and your son Collin. You will always be remembered for your endless acts of kindness over so many years with so many people. I am lucky to be one of them.
Maybe it was the peace of the waters that you traveled every day that made Cory who he was to everyone, or maybe it was just Cory, being Cory.....or both.
God Bless.

Cory won't be at the dock anymore. He won't tell any more of his infamous tales. He won't set his eel and crab traps. Although our beloved crick may seem empty, our eyes and hearts are filled with tears and unexplainable sadness.
I don't think Cory would be surprised at the outpouring of love from his beloved Freeport. Cory was, after all, "the captain of the crick", "Mr. Crabs", "the Mayor of Woodcleft" and many, many more beloved nick names we all had for him.
Cory, you see, did his good deeds quietly (believe it or not!). He didn't talk much about his acts of kindness, you just saw the single file line of grade school kids marching down the canal, looking at him in awe and listening as intently as they could. He was the "ole' man of the sea" to them, they marveled at his quirkiness and laughed at his commanding voice. He loved "his kids" and loved even more teaching them about his beloved Great South Bay.
Today, and for many days to come, this tight knit community mourns the loss of one of the most genuine, honest, giving people we knew. A man who loved his lifestyle, adored his friends, would give you everything he had or find it for you if he didn't have it, made us all laugh on a daily basis and spent endless hours saying "EH CAP!" to everyone who drove down that canal. We will all treasure the time we had him in our lives and miss him more than words can ever say. He was the nucleus of our neighborhood and in our minds, always will be.
To Priscilla and Collin, he loved you with all his being and we love you with all our hearts. You will always be our family on the crick!
Cory, may you rest in everlasting peace, our dear, dear friend and we take great comfort in knowing you will always be watching over us.

In 1980, Corey gave me my first boat. Alright, it had a pull start engine that I flooded regularly and no windshield or safety equipment...but it was my passport to a new world.
In 1996, he backed into our workplace on the canal, dropped the tailgate and drug out a fiberglass boat. Then he threw two oars out. "That's for your kids." That was it. He got back in the truck and drove off. And now those kids had the whole of Woodcleft Canal as their kingdom.
Seems like he knew a secret world of riches he just had to share. The magnificent world he loved.
