Edward Bruns Obituary

Bruns - Edward A., of Zephyrhills, Fl, and Malverne, NY, on May 17, 2022 at 84. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia. Survived by his loving children, Denise Diaz (Anthony), Stacey Green, (Edward Thomas), Kelly Treacy (James). Cherished grandfather to Jacquelyn, William, Anthony, Devin, Thomas, Nicole, Kelsey and Kathryn. Loving great-grandfather to Louis and Dominic.

Edward was born in Oceanside, NY and moved to Malverne where he attended schools there and graduated from Malverne Senior High School in 1955. He attended the University of Miami from 1955-1956 and then served in the US Air Force from 1956-1960 as a Russian Interpreter. Upon returning home, Ed decided to go into the "family business". He started working at Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home, owned by his father, Edward M. Bruns and grandfather, Armand S. Flinch. He worked there at night while attending Mc Allister Funeral Directing School during the day in order to get his license in funeral directing, While doing this, he met his bride-to-be Patricia. Edward and Patricia attended kindergarten years earlier together. Who knew they'd meet up again. They married in 1961 and moved to Malverne where they raised their 3 daughters.

Edward was a member of many clubs, Lynbrook Vulcan Fire Department, Lions Club, Elks, and Knights of Columbus. But was most proud to part of the Gift of Life Club… He donated gallons of blood during his lifetime. Which he would do proudly. He was always about helping and giving to others. Ed always had a joke for you, no matter how bad you thought things could be, he would make you laugh. He will be missed by so many.

Family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home, Inc. 34 Hempstead Ave (corner Peninsula Blvd.) Lynbrook. Funeral Mass Wednesday 11 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, Malverne. Interment to follow with Military Honors at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, NY. www.flinchandbruns.com

Our deepest sympathy to Ed´s family. We will always remember Ed for his jokes and bubbling personality and the many butterflies he gave to everyone. Rest in Heaven Ed with your beautiful wife Pat. Thank you for having the pleasure of knowing you. You gave much to everyone here at Southport Springs. We are very sad to hear of Ed´s passing.

Ed was a funny, easygoing and gentle person who was a great contributor to the Malverne community and a regular supporter of the Malverne Historical & Preservation Society. He will be missed.

"Fast Eddie" was a member of the Southport Community where my sisters and brothers and I met him when we visited our parents. His corny jokes made us laugh, and when our mother died he was a great comfort to us. May the angels meet him in Paradise. Some people were meant to touch our hearts and our souls. Eddie you are one of them. We will miss your earthly presence.
