Father Boesel was one of the good ones. I knew him from St. Patrick's in Glen Cove when I was a little kid. He used to get us into shape for the annual Memorial Day Parades in GC by having us march in the big parking lot across from the school. He was always happy, always smiling, and never had anything but encouraging things to say to us. He also was very generous with his time and often helped my family during financial hard times. There was simply no better example of what a Catholic Priest should be.

When I was a student at St Pat's in Glen Cove, for Memorial Day, during lunchtime out in the parking lot, the student body had to practice marching for the Glen Cove Memorial Day parade. Father Boesel was in charge with a big whistle around his neck and a swift kick in the behind for any laggers. It was always in good fun and he bubbled with energy, jokes, and encouragement to keep all the kids paying attention to left, left, left, right, left as we followed the practicing band around and around the lot. We complained to each other about having to give up our recess but then felt like big shots when we got to march in the parade as a school, in uniform, as our proud leader kept us all together. I cherish this memory I have of such a kind, funny, energetic, caring priest. RIP Father Boesel.

Saddened by the loss of such a great man of influence from my childhood years. His generosity, compassion, and leadership were traits that I strive to emulate to this day. I owe him an unending debt of gratitude for the opportunity to be raised amongst strong men of faith and quality teachers. I would have never had the opportunity to gain the education that I did had it not been for his direct action in my life. I am just one of the many people whose lives he enriched significantly and he will be greatly missed.

My family and I attended St. Patrick's School in the 50s, and Father Boesel married my husband and me in 76 as well as other family members. Father returned for our Mother's funeral in 98. We went to see him at Our Lady of Mercy, and it was coincidence that we we able to participate in a 25th wedding anniversary mass Our Lady of Mercy was sponsoring. We spent an enjoyable afternoon with Father and will always remember his warm heart and caring demeanor.
Sincere condolences to his family and parish family. Father touched many lives. Rest in peace, Father!

God Bless you, Msgr Boesel. Your love for Our Lady of Mercy Parish was felt by everyone who came in contact with you and we are all better people because of the kindness and love you showed your parishioners. I will always remember your sermon at the graduation Mass when my son graduated OLM in 1989. You spoke of the importance of the corporal works of mercy and the need to not only give, but to give humbly. And I will always remember your frequent references to the saints in the pews. But you were the real saint. Rest in peace.

Thank you for all you did for my family and for so many others, Msgr. Boesel. There are so many ways in which you impacted my life, especially while I was a student at OLM - which may not have happened for me as early as it did without your help. During the hardest times in life, you were there - to listen, to offer comfort, kind words and wisdom, to bring by a Thanksgiving turkey, and more - I am eternally grateful.
I wish I had told you that you are the reason I am still Catholic and the reason I still believe with all my heart and soul. It's not because I was baptized that way; it's because I have seen and experienced what our faith really is about and what it should look like - because of you. So many things occur in this world that could easily make me want to turn my back on the Church, but your examples of kindness, understanding and non-judgment provided me with a strong foundation to which I always refer back, that continues to carry me through life.
I hope you knew the impact you had and how loved and appreciated you are.
Rest in peace, Msgr. Boesel.
With love always,
Tara

I knew him as the chaplain at Holy Family High school in South Huntington from 1970-1974. And while I never needed any counseling (spiritual or otherwise) we had many conversations about current events, philosophy and my plans after graduation.
I had a chance to visit with him (briefly) last Thanksgiving, forty years after graduation ... and while early-onset dementia had started, our 15 minute visit was precious ... I felt I had completed-a-circle.
Requiescat-in-pace.

Father Boesel was a wonderful priest and servant of the Lord. He came to our families home regularly to visit, sometimes for dinner. When he visited he came with smiles and blessings. He left only joy.
Lord, grant him eternal rest.
And let perpetual life shine upon him.

Msgr. Boesel was a huge part of our lives as the Chaplain at Holy Family High School. His warmth, humanity, and caring nature was always front and center in his interaction with students. As part of the first class at Holy Family, it was a unique and life-changing experience. Msgr. Boesel played a major making Holy Family what it was and he was instrumental in helping to shape the lives of many young people. May Msgr. Boesel rest in peace.

I remember Fr Boesel with fondness from my childhood when he was at St. Patrick's in Glen Cove. Right before my 1st day of 1st grade my mom was accidentally severely injured by a dog. The dog jumped up to greet her and tore her face from the cheek to chin. She spent days in bed with her face wrapped like a mummy. She insisted on taking me for my first school day. When Fr Boesel saw her he took my hand and sent her home. He stayed with me until all the other parents left there kids? He was a wonderful compassionate man. May God embrace his soul and sweep him into heaven.

Father Boesel was at St. Patrick's in Glen Cove when I went to school there many years ago. I remember him as a gentle man who always had a smile and a kind word for all the students. May God hold him in the palm of his hand.
