Joe was one of the best Detectives I ever knew, and easily one of the finest men I ever met. Anyone who went into the First Squad while he was there benefited from his knowledge, and his kindness. He was always willing to help out, even when he was swamped with his own cases. I don't think that there's anyone out there who didn't really like Joe Hess (probably even some of the guys he locked up!).He was also a dear friend, and I will miss him.Rest in Peace,Joe.
