I have a house a couple blocks away for 35+ years. When we would go visit some veteran friends over at the VA, they always had us stop to bring them Leggio´s heros. Local Legends. RIP. Sad to see the windows of the deli papered over....

As a kid originally from Brooklyn / Queens who moved out to the Island Louie would make me feel like a celebrity when I would walk in ( I was only a Newsday Newspaper Boy ) haha
No matter who you were Louie & Joe would make you feel like you were family. We would talk about everything from sports, movies, music and of course family. To end this one in true Louie fashion I´ll say
" They Sure Don´t Make `Em Like They Used To "
Until we meet again Fratello

Louis you and Joe reminded us of an Abbott and Castello routine every time we purchased heros. We miss the heros but even more the two of you and the antics that went on between you two and the customers. Many times I watched you give food to those that could not afford it. They don't make quality people like the two of you anymore. Miss you

To Begin My sincerest condolences to the family. Leggio's Hero and I go back to my Jr. High School Days and Day trips with the Ski Club. Many of us frequented Leggio's for the famed heroes for those oh-so-long bus trips. Since then the heroes have been a staple on many a boating trip on the Great South Bay, or simply the best lunch money could buy. I often witnessed Joe and Lou being incredibly generous to children in the neighborhood who they knew were less fortunate. by giving them copious amounts of more than what they had ordered. Joe and Louis Loggios deli will be sorely missed by many. Rest in Peace, my friend.

I used to go to Leggio's for lunch when I attended BSH (class of 75) for the best hero's. I walked back in there about 2015 and I couldn't believe they recognized me after all these years! I got to talking with Joe about my hip surgery as he was going to have or just had the same surgery. When I went to pay for my sandwich Joe threw $2.00 back at me for a $3.00 roast beef sandwich which a price like that was unheard of. Always both very personable and caring. My church stopped in there once on the way to the city to feed the homeless to pick up extra's as we were short of donations that week and we couldn't pay for anything as Louie made sure it was all free. Two men with golden hearts. My only regret is that I didn't stop in there one last time. Leggio's (Louie and Joe) left an eternal imprint on the hearts and lives of many who walked thru their doors and we will be feeling the void for a long time.

My Deepest Sympathies to the entire Leggio Family and especially his wife Marianne. I'm not sure I can add anything that already hasn't been said except that Louie & Joey made such a difference to my youth and the town of Bay Shore. You are icons to all of us. I pray that you are at peace and not suffering anymore. RIP Louie I will miss you dearly.

Louie was a great part of my childhood as coming from a big Bayshore family, to this day I always stopped in and got a hero (the best). He always said Mr Pennisi how is your family and went down the line with aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers by their names. Even after a lot of them passed he used to still name them and say "god bless their soles". He will be missed and I will say "God Bless Your Sole Louie".

My heartfelt condolences go out to the Leggio Family especially to his wife Marianne, having just lost my husband recently, I feel your loss. Louie was my friend during my teenage years, when I was dating a neighbor of his, Billy Berka. I´m also Vera Guinta´s sister, Lucy. I always remember him laughing and just having fun wherever he happened to be at the time. I´m so sad we lost touch when I moved to Virginia to attend Nursing School. He was a terrific person and sounds like he was loved by many who knew him. I´m so sorry for your loss. I´m sure he will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this very sad and difficult time in your lives. Sincerely, Lucy
