I LOVE YOU DAD!!!!!

September 22, 2011

My condolences to the entire LaBella Family. I was one of the many lucky students at Holy Trinity who had the good fortune to have attended Mr. LaBella's Mechanical Drawing and Mechanical Engineering classes. He took a bunch of slightly talented kids and gave us a love and appreciation of drawing. He made us THINK every class and he showed us a practical side to education that until that time for us - didn't really exist. My class just celebrated our 35th reunion this past weekend in Hicksville and his name came up in several of our conversations. He was a dear man and one of the most memorable teachers I ever had. May he rest in peace and continue to shine his beautiful light on all of us.

I am very saddened to learn of Nick's death and I send my condolences to his wife and family. Nick once lived on School Street in Oyster Bay, just four doors down from my grandparents home. Many a time when I would pass by I would say hello to his mother.
Nick and I were classmates, K thru 12. We were both in the same art class right through 12th grade. We had a lot of fun kidding around.
He was a great guy to be around. God Bless You Nick. Jim Bumstead

I Only met Mr. LaBella 2 times, the first time at parent teacher night at Holy Trinity when he was my daughters Art teacher. That was around 1997. I met him again just this past June at the Teddy Roosevelt cemetery in Oyster Bay. My son in law, a US Marine and 2 grandsons who were visiting from Pensacola, FL visited Sagamore Hills and then stopped at the cemetery. Shortly after our arrival Mr. LaBella arrived and graciously asked us if we had any questions and before we could answer he was giving us a history lesson about all of people buried there, how they were related, what they did for a living, etc. along with numerous pages of historic writings, and drawings. I did not realize who he was until he mentioned that he taught art for 30 years and I looked down at some of the drawings that were inscribed with the name LaBella that I realized who I was talking with. We were ever so grateful for the time that he spent with us sharing his knowledge. Theresa, the Saladino's have your dad and your family in our prayers.
