Robert Schaefer

Schaefer, - Robert, Brother, O.S.F., entered Eternal Life on March 16, 2023. Brother Robert was a Franciscan Brother of Brooklyn for 71 years. Brother Robert was the son of Gerard and Marion Remsbecker. He entered the Order in 1951 from St. Thomas Aquinas Flatlands, Brooklyn, New York, and received the Franciscan habit and was given the name Brother Canisius. Brother Robert received degrees from St. Francis College, New York University and was a Ph.D. candidate. He taught at St. Francis Xavier, Notre Dame and St. Francis Prep. He was Principal of St. Anthony's High School and Juniorate. He was Registrar at St. Francis College and also taught Math at St. Francis. Brother Robert held many congregational positions, Director of Camp Alvernia, General Consultor, Director of Apostolates and General Secretary. In 1998, he was recognized as Dean Emeritus of Registration and Academic Records at St. Francis College. Brother Robert received a Ph.D., Honorary Doctor of Science, from St. Francis College and was honored by St. Francis Prep Alumni Association "Hall of Fame". Brother Robert is survived by his sister, Dorothy Seery and her husband, Tom; and his nieces, JoAnn C. Stonier, Christina Cocco (husband, Victor M. Cocco), Suzanne M. Seery; nephews, Paul T. Seery and Eric Stonier; greatnieces Alexis Seery, Amanda Cocco, Olivia Seery, and Lauren Stonier; and greatnephews, Victor Cocco,

Parker Stonier, and Michael T. Seery. He has numerous cousins from both the Schaefer and Remsbecker extended families. He is also survived by his Franciscan Brothers. Viewing will take place on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Our Lady of Angels Friary Chapel 344-73 Street, Brooklyn, New York 11209. The Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Our Lady of Angels Roman Catholic Church 7320 Fourth Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, 11209 at 10:30am. Parking is available in the large parking lot (school yard). Interment at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, New York.
