David Humphreys Obituary
Wednesday, January 13, Captain David Humphreys passed away suddenly from a stroke at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 6, 1933 in Adelaide, Australia, he was the only child of Sidney and Irene Humphreys.
Captain Humphreys' passion was the sea. He went to sea in the British India Steam Navigation Company as a cadet at the age of 16. He sailed with Canadian Pacific Passenger Lines in the North Atlantic for several years. Captain Humphreys was responsible for discovering over 4,000 square miles of Northern Greenland during a winter polar expedition documented by NBC. He also transited the Northwest Passage in Canada with his family and sailed to the North Pole with his son on a nuclear powered ice breaker.
Captain Humphreys is the founder and owner of Linea Peninsular, Incorporated. Linea Peninsular was founded more than 32 years ago and has 4 container ships servicing the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico from Panama City, FL and Houston, TX. In that time, his vessels have made more than 8,000 crossings of the Gulf of Mexico. Captain Humphreys loved his company; he treated his staff like family and working up until his last day.
Captain Humphreys was a man of great faith and he generously donated to many organizations and individuals around the world.
Captain Humphreys is survived by his wife, Ioana Lelaulu Humphreys, son, David Lelei Humphreys, daughter, Pia Laloifi Humphreys, daughter in law, Mia Catharine Humphreys, grandchildren: Faye Celia Jones, Lyla Caroline Jones, Jordan Elyse Humphreys, Carson David Humphreys, baby girl Humphreys due in July and his beloved dog, Clyde.
He will be deeply missed.

Friends will be received Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 6-8 pm at the Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 am Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1214 Moylan Rd, Panama City Beach, FL 32407. A reception in his honor will follow at Uncle Ernie's Bay Front Grill, 1151 Bayview Ave, Panama City, FL 32401.

I was a delivery captain for David when he acquired Patrick Ellam Inc. He was a good friend and a very fine leader. I admired him for his imagination, dedication and adventurous spirit. After leaving Patrick Ellam, we sadly lost touch. I think of him frequently.

The last time I talked to Capt.Humphreys was Y2010. I asked him his "secret" to his success. He said, "well...life has been good to me and everything seems easy despite the trials." Capt.Humphreys always saw the good and the opportunities even in rough seas. Capt.Humphreys was like a father to me. You are a role model on how we should take care of all the people around us. like family. You will always be a part of my growth in life. May God's eternal light shine upon you. My condolences to the family of a great man, Captain David Humphereys. It was my honor to work with him in the repairs and upkeep of his beloved ships when he docked them with us at BQR Shipyard. Captain David was a true gentleman and a prince to work with. His knowledge of his beloved ships was a wonder to behold. We will miss him.

Capt. David Humphreys called me up one day and asked me if I can include a certain motorman (ship crew works in engine department) to one of his dear ships. It turned out that the motorman only got acquainted with Capt. David briefly in port and that he (motorman) is worrying for his next employment.
It's amazing, Capt. David called me up in Philippines to consider this fellow.

My brilliant, extraordinary Father-in-Law, Capt. David Sidney Humphreys, sailed home to the Lord last night. He was a true citizen of the world & has touched so many lives near and far.
