MOUNT CARMEL - John "Jack" Hrabovsky, 79, a devoted family man and respected public servant, passed away, Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Jack's life was defined by his honorable military service and dedicated career in law enforcement.
He was born in Mount Carmel, Feb. 28, 1945, a son of Margaret and George Hrabovsky. He grew up at 240 S. Locust St. in the borough.
He attended Mount Carmel High School, graduating in 1963. Well known to his friends and family as "Hotdog," he participated on legendary coach's Gerald Breslin's track and field and cross country teams, as well as coach Charles Sacavage's wreslting team.
After receiving airline training and working for Delta Airlines, Jack answered the call to serve his country by joining the U.S. Air Force. His time in the military instilled in him a strong sense of duty and patriotism, shaping the person he became.
Following his military service, Jack embarked on a fulfilling career as a deputy for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. For an admirable 34 years, he faithfully served his community, dedicating himself to protecting and serving others. Jack's unwavering commitment to upholding the law and ensuring the safety of his fellow citizens will be remembered and admired.
While his professional life was impactful, Jack found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours working in his yard, nurturing his gardens with care. Fly fishing and kayaking were among his favorite pastimes, allowing him to connect with nature and find tranquility in the beauty that surrounded him.
Jack leaves behind his loving wife of 30 years, Teresa, who stood beside him through thick and thin, his two daughters, Jill and Valerie, and two sons, Nathan and Glenn, were a source of happiness in his life. Jack also had a sister, Georgene, residing in Mount Carmel, and a brother, Jim, living in San Diego, California, with whom he shared cherished memories and unwavering support. His five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren brought boundless joy and laughter into his life.
Jack will forever be remembered as a man of honor, integrity and dedication. His years of military service and unwavering commitment to law enforcement will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps. He taught us the value of service to others and the importance of standing up for what is right.
Jack touched many people's lives in many different places and in numerous positive ways. As we bid farewell to him, we hold onto the memories of a loving family man, a dedicated public servant and a true patriot. May his soul find eternal peace and may his legacy of honor and service continue to shine brightly in our hearts and in the lives of those he touched.
Rest in peace, Jack. You will be deeply missed, but your memory will forever inspire us.
HRABOVSKY - John "Jack" Hrabovsky, 79. A memorial service will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday to celebrate and honor Jack's life at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, Florida. His final resting place will be in Monunt Carmel Cemetery at a time to be determined next to his mother and father and his brother, William, who preceded him in death.
