Mildred Michaels Obituary

WINDSOR, Conn. — Mildred Kovack Michaels, 95, died peacefully in the early hours of Thursday, May 31, 2012.

Born in Shamokin, Pa., our mother moved to Windsor, Conn., in 1978, and was delighted by her new town.

She was married to Henry Jackson (Jack) Michaels, who preceded her in death.

The first thing mom did when she moved to Windsor was join the Windsor Library. She was a voracious reader; her love for books was passed on to her children. She joined the Windsor Garden Club, was active at Northwest Park, created a lovely garden at her home, enjoyed her granddaughter, Phoebe, during many summers and baked the best apple pie "in the world." Our mother had a great sense of humor and a good sense of fun and adventure that she passed on to "her girls." She was an avid UCONN women's basketball fan and never missed a game on TV.

She was the loving mother of three daughters, Jacqueline (Lynne) Michaels, who predeceased her in death, Mary (Holly) Michaels and her partner, Rose Petito, of Windsor, Conn., Kirstin Michaels, of New York City; and a granddaughter, Phoebe Weiskopf, of Pittsburgh, Pa.

She is also survived by a brother, Michael Kovack and wife, Diann, and their three children, and a sister, Christine "Pudgy" Lusick, all of Shamokin, Pa.

In addition to her husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Rindosh, and a brother, "Billy" Kovack.

Our mom spent the remaining years of her life at Meadowbrook of Granby and was quite happy there. We will be forever grateful to them, especially Amy, Laura and Georgia, for their excellent care and the love they showed her. The Farmington Valley VNA Hospice was there for the last few days and they were wonderful. We are grateful, too, for their compassion and care.

To Mildred's family: I haven't seen Mildred in years, but certainly remember her. I worked for her husband, Jack, in the early forties.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her.

What many wonderful memories to cherish. I have many fond memories of your mother and "her girls" coming in to the Windsor Library, where I worked for many years. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mary and Kris,
I was so sorry to hear of your loss. What a wonderful obit you wrote to honor her. She would totally approve.
She was a fun lady, that's a childhood memory of mine.
I remember her craft projects in the basement (beer cans painted black with decals applied and made into sprinkling cans for sprinkling your clothes)......another childhood memory.
Just wanted to express my sympathy for your loss.
