Robert Mattis Obituary

COAL TOWNSHIP — Robert J. Mattis, 56, of 1443 Wabash St., died peacefully Saturday, June 9, 2012, at home.

Born in Shamokin, Oct. 14, 1955, he was a son of the late Francis A. and Anna (Bendas) Mattis. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was employed by the PA Department of Corrections for 26 years.

He was a 1973 graduate of Shamokin Area High School and was a member of the Catholic faith.

Bob served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

He was senior vice commander of the Kulpmont VFW, a member of the Lithuanian Club, life member of the East End Fire Company, life member of the Brady Fire Company, member of the Pride Mount Carmel/Coal Township Chapter Motorcycle Club and director of Overseas Veterans of Kulpmont. He was the founder of the Pride of Coal Township Chapter Motorcycle Club, where he served as vice president for two consecutive terms.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Survivors include a sister, Rita "Marcella" Ginitz, of Shamokin; a brother, Frank A. Mattis Jr., of Ashland; his best friend, Tina Maschal, of Mount Carmel, and friend, Tanya (Scandal) Broscius.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy West and Emily Rosini.

MATTIS — Robert J. Mattis, 56, of 1443 Wabash St., Coal Township. Relatives, friends and neighbors are invited to attend a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the USMC Toys for Tots 2012 Annual Drive, c/o VFW, 823 Chestnut St., Kulpmont 17834.

Jeez Bob I'm in shock. I wish you would of told me you were sick when I saw you a few months back at Scotts (weis). I didn't find out till later about your illness. I'm sorry you had to suffer bud. You were a good guy. Thanks for being a friend. I will always remember those booze tours with you and Clyde when we were younger. Those were the days. God bless you my friend, till we meet again in heaven. May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Good bye Brother.
