Beverly Lujan Obituary

Beverly Kaye Lujan, 69, of North Pole, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at her residence in North Pole, surrounded by her immediate family.
Beverly Lujan was born Nov. 19, 1946, in Steubenville, Ohio, to her parents Bertie Patrick Wade and Emmett Tosi.
Beverly attended Follensbee High School, in Follensbee, West Virginia. Upon graduation in 1964, she was offered and accepted a civil service job as a clerk typist with the United States Information Agency in Washington, D.C. While in D.C., she met and began dating then-U.S. Army Specialist 4 Jesus Lujan. The two married in September 1965. A few months later, Jesus received orders for assignment in Germany, and life as a married couple in the military began.
Beverly was a proud military wife and devoted mother, raising their two children while dutifully supporting Jesus' career, including multiple tours stateside and overseas. In 1979, while stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia, Beverly went back to work as administrative support for the generals at Fort Monroe. In 1981, the family moved to Fairbanks, where Jesus would finish out his military career with an extended tour at Fort Wainwright. Upon arriving at Fort Wainwright, Beverly worked at the Department of Engineering and Housing, and eventually began her longtime employment as a staff assistant with Bureau of Land Management's Alaska Fire Service. Beverly retired in 2006 with 27 years of federal service.
Beverly had an adventurous spirit, enjoying annual camping and fishing trips in the fifth-wheeler with her best friend, her husband. She was passionate about fishing, and once on the water, it was tough to get her to come back in. She often waged bets with her grandchildren as to who was going to catch the biggest fish. She was a talented cook, always trying new recipes. She loved watching horror movies, keeping up with technology, fashion, shopping and cuddling her loyal Yorkie, "Pepper." While Beverly had many interests and hobbies, none could compete with her deep commitment to her family, and her desire to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She had a special bond with each, and cherished the many memories, conversations and laughter they shared.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett Tosi and Bertie Patrick Wade; her sisters, Ruthetta Bussler, Carolyn Duffy and Mary Ramey; and niece Cheryl Ramey.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jesus Lujan; daughter Diana (Jay) Aragon, of Clarksville, Tennessee; son Jess (Bridget) Lujan, of Juneau; grandchildren Michael (Lauren) Aragon, Joseph (Chelsea) Aragon, Ciara Aragon, Christopher and Megan Lujan; great-grandson Jayden Aragon; nephews Mark (Brenda) Ramey, Joe and Richard Ramey; and nieces Leigh Ann Duffy and Denise Johnston.
Services will be held today, Nov. 15, at the Fairbanks Funeral Home and Crematory. Viewing from will be from noon to 1 p.m., followed by funeral service at 1 p.m., officiated by Deacon George Bowder.
Donations in Beverly's honor may be made to the Fairbanks Animal Shelter through the Alaska Community Foundation.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fairbanks Funeral Home.

My fondest memory of Bev was the time she fished so hard and so long she damaged her shoulder. For her retirement, I gave her a small coin from the Alaska Mint with a salmon on it because I was so tickled that nothing was going to keep her from getting those salmon!

With everyone noting how sweet Bev was, there was yet another side to her. She could be firm when she needed to, but she was always very kind when doing so. I suspect this made her such a good mom and so beloved by her family.

For Jess and the rest of your family, take comfort in having had her in your life. I'm very sorry she's gone, and I ache for you.

She was someone that I will always remember.

Bev welcomed me to AFS in Mar 1998 with a warm smile. She was so helpful and encouraging while I learned the role of being the receptionist and also the hurdles of being a new Air Force retiree. When I left AFTS in Oct 2003, Bev continued to be a friend and a was she a reference for resumes on many occasions. And through the years, I have enjoyed her wonderful emails and phone calls. Bev will always have a special place in my heart.
