Brian Asplund Obituary

Longtime Alaskan Brian S. Asplund passed away Oct. 28, 2014, from pancreatic cancer at age 54 in Circle.
Brian was born to Inge and William Asplund on Nov. 28, 1959, in Rockford, Illinois.
He moved to Alaska in 1982 after taking a canoe trip with his father in 1981 down the Yukon River from Eagle to Circle City. He fell in love with Alaska and eventually built a cabin along the Yukon River and lived a subsistence lifestyle for many years. He worked as a trapper, commercial fisherman, gold miner and was part owner of Circle Utilities. He and Michel Gentry were married July 14, 2007, in Cordova.
Brian faced many challenges which only made him stronger and more determined to succeed. This earned him the respect and friendship of all who knew him. He was caring and generous throughout his life. He faced illness to the end with the same bravery and determination to survive for which he was known.
He will be greatly missed, loved and remembered by all who knew him. Special thanks is extended to his close friends, Gary Poe and his wife, Arlene, for their support and compassion, and to Sandy and the Interior Alaska Cancer Association.
Brian is survived by his wife, Michel Gentry; his son, Scott Asplund Chamberlain, of Circle and Fairbanks; his daughter, Ayla Asplund, of Circle and Dawson; his son, Davin Meyer, of Sedalia, Colorado; his mother, Inge Asplund, of Rockford, Illinois; his brother, Wayne Asplund, and wife, Debbie, of Winnebago, Illinois; his sister, Angela Asplund, of Winnebago, Illinois; his grandson, Trenton, and granddaughter, Sophia, of Fairbanks; his nieces, Jessica and Heather, and nephews, Wyatt and Sam; all of Winnebago, Illinois.
He is preceded in death by his father, William W. Asplund.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today, Nov. 8, in Circle.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Interior Alaska Cancer Association.

My big brother, my love. I am so blessed I got the years I had with you to give me an experience of a life time. I think of you every day and wear your jacket you gave me when you first found out of your illness. I promised you I would never, ever spend a day without you...and I meant it. You are still my hero. I love you.
