Charles Goldsmith Obituary

Longtime Fairbanks resident Charles Edward Goldsmith, 75, went to his final home with God the Father on Wednesday, June 29, 2011. He fought vigorously against cancer and then it came back. Charles is in a much better place. Thank you doctors and staff of Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for the good gentle care you gave him.
Charles had some interesting experiences throughout his life. Listening to him tell those stories could be very entertaining. Charles was born in Washington and moved with his family to Arkansas around the age of 10.
Charles served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He also served as an Alaska State Trooper for 27 years. Following the troopers, Charles worked as a security guard in the Fairbanks Courthouse. Upon retirement, Charles enjoyed going "Outside," usually once a year.
Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary; and daughter, Joy.
Charles is survived by his wife, Patricia and her children, Mark and his wife Sandra Klimaschesky and Clark Klimaschesky and his children, Kyle and Amanda; Mary's children whom he raised and always considered his own, Jack Kittle and Val Dennis and granddaughter Jami Dennis, all of Florida; sisters, Dorothy West and Betty Keiter of Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews in Arkansas.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, at First Church of the Nazarene, 1524 Westwood Way. A burial with full military honors will be held the following day at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, at Northern Lights Memorial Park.
Arrangements were entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.

I knew Chuck while working at the Court System. Always he had a smile and kind word for you, he welcomed you in and bid you good-bye at night. I offer his family my sympathy, he was a wonderful man to know.

I transported many prisoners and mental patients to Fairbanks from Barrow. I knew that Chuck meeting me at the airport would guarantee an incident free transport. Everyone, including prisoners could sense that Chuck's concern was real and not contrived.

Chuck was a very special man. Always happy and fun to be around.
He was one of the best officer's that i hired to work at the Court House. He always had a new story about his time on the North Slope. Her also had a lot of respect for everyone he had made contact with. Good or bad he respected the person. Treated them with respect. Most people treated him the same way.

My condolences to Patricia and family, I know he will be greatly missed. I knew Chuck through working at the Courthouse and as a wonderful Christian at Totem Park Church several years ago. Prayers are with each of you. Meda Witter, Fairbanks

I worked with Chuck at the courthouse on Barnette - I still think of him every time I encounter his favorite cookies - "Coconut MacaROONS"...just the way he said it still makes me laugh all these years later. He will be missed.

I knew Chuck through his years as a court service officer, and always enjoyed his steady presence and quiet humor. He was quick with a smile and friendly greeting.

Sorry to hear of his passing.
