Christopher VanReenan

1985 - 2021

Christopher Lewellyn VanReenan passed suddenly on Aug. 1, 2021. He was born on March 23, 1985, in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he was raised with a fierce pride in his Alaska Native heritage and where he fathered two daughters of his own.
Growing up as an only child, he was surrounded by cousins who played the roles of siblings in a small, tight-knit family. In their shared youth, he was a constant source of love and support as well as an endless well of wit and humor; he had an affinity for music and movies, from which he would frequently quote lyrics and dialog. In addition to playing basketball in school and with friends, he also collected sports memorabilia and was an avid reader of comic books. His favorite superhero was Batman; he even had a tattoo of the Bat-Signal.
He worked to support his own small family until, due to life circumstances, they spent several years apart. Chris was thrilled when his daughters, now young adults, returned to Alaska to be with him. Before his passing, his oldest daughter made him a proud grandpa.
He is survived by his daughters, Kindra and Kiaha; his granddaughter, Izora; his mother, Karen; his father, Larry; and more family and friends who will miss him dearly.
The suddenness of his passing has left a void in those who knew and cared about him. Grappling with the grief of an unfinished life is always difficult. A service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2021, at Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home, 415 Illinois St., with a graveside service at Birch Hill Native Cemetery to follow.
