Jonathan McBride Obituary

March 19, 1955 - Nov. 15, 2021
Scott left us peacefully surrounded by those who loved him and were loved by him at home in Fairbanks. Heart failure finally took it's toll on his once strong body.
Scott's kind and generous spirit has left it's mark on each who knew him.
His life was one of adventure. He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing especially on the Clearwater, trapping, predator calling, mining or almost anything outdoors.
From a military family he lived across the country from Georgia to Alaska. He called Alaska home even though the farm in Missori he and Gail planned to settle on in retirement was his home too. He loved that farm with the garden, chickens and some Angus cattle.
Scott worked at whatever was at hand where he was living at the time, construction, railroad bridge building, bar tending, school bus attending, but settled into a successful career in telecommunications. Offered a job on Fort Greely to help replace the telephone switch was the beginning of many adventures traveling across the country to mostly government contracts for CDTS and Four Points Communications installing telephone cabling and equipment. This was a good fit for his adventurous spirit, ability to organize a project and his eye for detail.
A constant thread throughout Scott's life was his kind, generous spirit. He loved helping someone more than anything. It was a true pleasure to help out the grandchildren as they began their own lives. He did not spoil them, except for a root beer float or Ovaltine shake before dinner, but gladly helped them financially to get on their feet as they were working toward their goals. Even strangers benefited from his generosity as the opportunities presented themselves across the country during their travels.
Surprising all who knew Scott and Gail, they met while working at Alaska Motor Coaches and quickly became a loving and committed couple marrying in 1995. Together they continued Scott's career, working and traveling together for many years. Their plan of retirement on the 110 acre farm in Conway, Missouri, was thwarted by Scott's sudden health issues. In 2016 the farm was sold and they moved back to Alaska near family who became everything in this world to him.
Scott's relationship with Jesus continued to grow as he was confined and in pain. He rarely complained but often spoke of how thankful he was for all our Lord had given us even though he was not well. His thankful heart was truly a work of the Spirit of God.
Scott is survived by his wife Gail, son Nathan McBride (Shelia), Lyle Hutto, Ally Wiest (Donny) and 12 grandchildren, Jo McBride (mother), Amy (Charlie), Tom (Linda), and nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.

Scott and Gail and Jo McBride were the first ones to welcome us to Alaska and invite us into genuine friendship--that was 1998. Truly a friend sticks closer than a brother and Scott was that and more. My prayers and love to the family because only God can give true comfort and peace. And I rejoice that Scott is totally free and happier than he ever dreamed possible. i wouldn't deny him that, but also don't deny the hole he leaves in so many of us.

I first met Scott and Gail in Charleston at a job site at the old naval base. Working with him was a little bit of a learning curve but after understanding his way a job should be done he became a pleasure to work with because I always knew what was expected and he never faulted. Over the next several years we worked at many jobs all around the southeast and grew to becoming good friends. I especially enjoyed having them at my home on numerous occasions and visiting them at the farm in Missouri and I jumped at the offer to help them move to Alaska, that was a special time for me. We visited Scott and Gail in Alaska with my wife and kids netting family and friends that I had heard old stories about. Went on many outdoor adventures and will cherish those memories forever. We would keep in touch by phone or text and email thru Gail. Neither of us were much at social media. I could tell Scott´s health was failing overtime when we talked and when I called to check on him this past verterans day and Gail told me his condition my heart was so heavy that I felt I could not bear hearing his passing. But when Gail called that morning with the sad news I was surprised that I felt a sense of relief knowing that his pain and suffering had ended. Scott will be remembered and missed by so many people that he touched. Especially me.
