Myrna Edwin Obituary

Our dearly beloved mother, wife, grandma, sister, auntie, cousin, godmother and friend, Myrna Lynn Edwin 58, went to be with the Lord peacefully at 2:50 p.m. April 14, 2025, with her family and friends by her side at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital after a long battle fighting stage IV cancer.

Myrna was born to the late James and Francis Nathaniel on Sept. 18, 1966, in Tanana, Alaska. Myrna was raised with her brother, James Jr., and her sister, Geraldine, in Fort Yukon and later moved to Chalkyitsik. Losing her mother at a young age, Myrna was raised by her dad, James Sr., and her great-grandfather, Frank Ginnis. Myrna graduated high school in 1984 in Chalkyitsik, Alaska, and later furthered her education in nutrition at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and graduated with an endorsement certificate. Myrna's work ethic was extraordinary; she worked countless hours for the Chalkyitsik tribe and then later in Fort Yukon as a receptionist with the Council of Athabascan Tribal Governments.

Myrna met the love of her life, Paul Edwin, in 1993 and they happily married on Nov. 21, 1998 in Chalkyitsik. Together they raised their two daughters, Francine and Sadie. Paul and Myrna built their home in Chalkyitsik at Second Lake, where they lived a traditional subsistence lifestyle. She homeschooled her daughters, and together Paul and Myrna taught them how to hunt, trap and live off the land. Myrna absolutely loved her traditional subsistence lifestyle living on the Black River with her husband and family.

Myrna had a heart of gold; she was so kind and caring. She enjoyed beading, reading and playing Scrabble with her family. The happiest moments her in life was when she brought her sons home for the first time to meet their family, Travis and Brian Maninger. Her pride and joys were her grandsons, Danny, Darius and Drake, and her granddaughter, Caroline. She loved and spoiled her puppy, Tazz.

Myrna was a strong believer in the Lord and her faith only got much more stronger when she was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer in September of 2023. That's where her fight began. She was a strong woman and child of God. She kept her faith in the Lord and her happiness in her heart throughout her whole medical treatment. She always had a smile on her face and the most beautiful laugh. She loved to tease and be silly. Myrna will be missed by all who knew her as she touched so many lives and showed her kindness and love towards everyone.

Myrna is survived by her husband, Paul; her daughter, Sadie (Daniel); her sons, Travis and Brian Maninger; her grandsons, Danny, Darius and Drake, and granddaughter, Caroline; her brother, James Nathaniel Jr.; brother-in-law, Stanley Edwin; her nephews, Jason Nathaniel and Robert Flitt; Aunts Betty Flitt and Linda Horace, and Uncles William Flitt, Henry Flitt, Norman Flitt and Wally Flitt; numerous extended great-aunts, great-uncles, aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and her godchildren, Jamie Bridges, Henry Druck, Jessica Druck, Christy Ann Druck, Jordan Carroll, Cameron Solomon and Charlie Fields.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Nathaniel Sr. and Francis Nathaniel; her daughter, Francine Nathaniel; her sister, Geraldine, and her brother-in-law, Robert Folger; and her great-grandparents, Frank Ginnis and Sophia Williams. We apologize if we missed anyone and sorry we couldn't include everyone's name - if we listed her whole family we'd be here all day. Cousins by the dozens up and down the rivers. We'd love to thank everyone for your kindness, love, support and prayers during this hard time. Mas'ii Cho, thank you everyone.

Myrna's service and visitation was held at Legacy Chapel of Chimes in Fairbanks, Alaska, on April 16, 2025. Myrna's funeral services will be in Fort Yukon, Alaska, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Hudson Stuck Cemetery.

Our family thanks each and everyone of you for your over-pouring amount of love, prayers and support.
