Suzanne Osborn Obituary

Suzanne Rich Osborn passed away on Feb. 14, 2023, on her 37th wedding anniversary with Philip Osborn surrounded by her family on Maui. She was 83 years old.

She was the daughter of Hulda Penner Rich and Willis Rich, born in North Newton, Kansas, and the loving mother of Allan and Ananda Stone. She was the last remaining sibling of Mary Lou Goertzen, Carol Andreas and Jim Rich. She earned a Bachelor's degree at Bethel College in teaching, had an active midwifery career for over 20 years and served as the first licensed midwife in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Suzanne was passionate about holistic health, gardening and cooking wholesome meals. She loved singing in the choir and making lovely handmade cards and quilts. She was an ardent pacifist walking a peace walk to Moscow in 1961 and founded the Fairbanks Peace Choir as a way to inspire people and promote understanding, social justice, and make the world a better place.

She was admired and revered by her community, friends, and family. She will forever be loved, always be remembered and cherished.

Suzanne, such a positive, friendly and action oriented influence in our community. Suzanne was an intentional woman who made herself part of the fabric of Fairbanks.

As a midwife she touched many family's lives in an intimate way. She was my midwife 25 years ago. She patiently sat with us for three days from Winter Solstice until Christmas, helping us birth a son.

Suzanne, your soul is so strong and precious. Thank you for the way you embraced your community and everyone around you. Blessings for a beautiful continuing journey.

Suzanne, you will be deeply missed. You were so ingrained as a close friend and family member for years. Your smile and cheerful attitude were always a bright point in my days. My deepest sympathy to Phil, the family and all the lives she touched.

I´m sorry to hear about Suzanne´s passing. She helped deliver my second child at home in 1984, and her presence there was valued more than she could know. I will miss seeing her around town - it was always a joy to see her. Much love to you all.

My condolences to Phil, family and friends. I recall the good couple that Suzanne and Phil were. Principled, kind, hard working, and honorable.
