Victoria Meyer Obituary

I had a wonderful life. I was born June 18, 1937, in New York City to Audray Carlen and Victor Acampora. They were married as teenagers and were soon divorced. My mother made her way as a single parent and I was raised by Anna Carlen, my grandmother. After a few years my mother remarried Gaylord Edward Meyer. He adopted me. I am proud to have been their daughter. My mother taught me to have a passion for learning and independence. My father taught me to observe human behavior. People will tell you what they are by their actions more than by what they say.

I graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a bachelor's degree in education. I taught primary grades from 1966 to 1986. It was a creative and marvelous way to earn a living. In 1990 I moved to Lorane, Oregon, where I opened a library. It was built on donations of books and in two years grew from 100 books to 10,000 books! I traveled the world, paid my own way, lived as an independent woman, a realist, and proudly as a nontheist. To my friends and lovers, thank you for your care and patience. To everyone; be kind, be helpful, and mostly have fun every day.

It´s been years since our paths last crossed, but I´ll never forget the Chinese fireworks you bought to the Hunter Elementary Christmas party. It made for an awesome evening!

Viki was the most joyous of kindergarten teachers! The pleasure that she brought to very young people who were just learning to sit still for more than minutes and encourage their curiosity in the world around them is remembered fondly, 61 years later.
