Albert Ballard Obituary

Mr. Albert Joseph "A.J." Ballard, Jr., 79, died Saturday, October 9, 2004. A native of New Bern, A.J. was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church; York Rite; Sudan Temple; New Bern Golf & Country Club; and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII & the Korean War. A.J. was best known for being the president of A.J. Ballard, Jr. Tire & Oil Co., and Ballard Transport Inc. He was the recipient of the 50 Year award in the NC Petroleum Marketers Association. A.J. was preceded in death by his parents, Albert J. Ballard and Katherine Robinson Ballard, and his brother, Horace G. Ballard.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Cloninger and Dr. Jack Hinton officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
A.J. is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce Dickinson Ballard; sons, Gary Allen Ballard and wife Virginia Hill Ballard, of New Bern, NC; Albert Christopher Ballard and wife Coleen Lemnah Ballard, of Greenville, NC; brothers, Robert L. Ballard and wife Carolyn, of New Bern, NC, and George L. Ballard and wife Marcia, of Fayetteville, NC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Natalie Marie Ballard and Alexander Christopher Ballard; step-grandchildren, Travis Murphy and wife Lynn, Beverly Murphy and husband Steven, and Angie Wells; and six step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at the home, 2409 Tram Road. A.J. may be viewed at Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory, Monday and Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 616 Broad St., New Bern, NC 28560.
