I was Dr. Meiburg's Teaching Assistant in Pastoral Care at Southeastern for several years during my Th.M. studies. He supervised my Th.M. thesis on Richard K. Young; I was a Resident in the Pastoral Counseling program at NCBH. This was at a time when women in ministry was controversial in the SBC. He never wavered in his support for those of us who were working to follow our callings by acquiring pastoral skills and some spiritual stamina. Please know what a difference he made for many of us in our lives and ministries. His confidence and care were critical. He was a gentle and honorable man with integrity.

Albert Meiburg and I joined the faculty at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary the same year, 1975, he as dean of the faculty and professor of pastoral theology and I as professor in that same field. We worked as colleagues for 16 years. Al was a friend and supportive fellow faculty member. He has made notable contributions to seminary education and to the individual lives of the many students he's taught. I remember him with appreciation and gratitude as a long time friend and colleague.

Al was the third president of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. He was a true leader as our association was being formed. We will miss him and know that his family misses him even more. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who grieve his death.
