Alex Jack Gavin, 22, went home to be with God, Wednesday, December 13, 2017.
A native of Wake County, Alex was born March 10, 1995 to Mark and Susan Sabatino Gavin. Alex had a love for video games, comic books, movies, and music. He shared his family's love of reading, especially the works of Richard Kadrey. Alex was a certified carpenter and also enjoyed working in the video game industry. Though a sad and difficult situation, Alex will be giving the gift of life to others, as he was an organ donor.
He is survived by his parents, Mark and Susan Gavin; sister, Amanda Gavin and fiancé, Roger Barker; grandparents, Jack and Judy Sabatino and Ruth Gavin; and uncles, Scott Sabatino and wife, Kim, John Gavin and wife, Shannon, Mike Gavin and wife, Sherri, and Daniel Gavin and wife, Jeannette; as well as many loving cousins.
A gathering of friends will be held on Tuesday December 19, 2017 from 10:00AM until 11:00AM at McLaurin Funeral Home, Clayton.

It is with a heavy heart that we send this message to you. Sadly, we have learned about the passing of your beloved son Alex. There are simply no words that can adequately express what it is to suffer the loss of a beloved child. We are bereaved parents who have experienced this same devastating loss and we want to reach out to you in behalf of our group: The Compassionate Friends of Wake County. We are a non-profit and non-denominational support group that consists solely of parents who have lost children of all ages and all causes. We welcome everyone. We are part of the worldwide organization The Compassionate Friends which can be accessed at www.compassionatefriends.org. Our group meets twice a month at 7:30 PM every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh. There is someone at the desk to advise you where to go. If you have any questions, please call our message line 919-833-4022. There is always a bereaved parent on call who will get back to you in one to three days. We are so sorry for your loss and please know that you and your precious child are in our thoughts and prayers.

I was informed of the passing of Alex this morning. I am deeply saddened to hear of such a beautiful soul to leave the earth. However, I am joyful that such a precious flower now decorates God's garden in Heaven. Alex was a remarkable and kind spirit at The Early College where I am Director of Counseling & Student Services. May the peace that God offers rest and comfort your soul during this period of grief and the days ahead.
