Amanda Kuruc-Koelling Obituary

Amanda Kuruc-Koelling
June 30, 1976 - March 8, 2023
Durham, North Carolina - We are filled with grief and disbelief as we announce the death of Amanda Christian Kuruc Koelling, 46 of Durham, NC on March 8th, 2023. She did not suffer and was with her husband at her side at the end.
Amanda was incredibly passionate in her beliefs and a deeply loving and caring wife, mother and daughter. Amanda is survived by her husband, Joseph Koelling; daughter Eloise; stepchildren Dalia and Benjamin; parents Joan and John Kuruc; brother Chris and her grandmother Joan Blake of Pinehurst, NC.
Amanda loved and lived art, earning her BA degree from the University of Illinois Chicago, studying under Hanna Higgins. She felt blessed to work with her second family at The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, surrounded by incredible art and amazing people. Amanda's impact at the museum was remarkable; her skills in relationship-building and strategic thinking were a gift to the team.
We will be paying tribute to Amanda's life with a celebration of life later.
Please consider donations in honor of Amanda to a charity that feeds the hungry, nurtures and protects children, strengthens communities of color, or supports the arts.

First and foremost my condolences go out to The Kuruc family, Amanda´s family and friends. I am truly shocked and saddened to hear about her passing. I have known Amanda for many years, we lived about 3 blocks away from each other on Wesley street in Evanston, IL. We spent many times together hanging around and enjoying each others company. I have an especially fond memory of her playing the piano for me at her house, I was genuinely moved by her talent and her willingness to share that with me.

Although we lost touch for some time over the years we always remained friendly and even looked forward to meeting up back in Evanston the last time she came "home" I am saddened that we didn´t get a chance to meet up in the end.

I have always and will continue to hold our memories close to my heart. I wish you safe passage on your journey from this physical world to your next stop on your celestial travels my dear. Godspeed and love always.

My deepest condolences to the Kuruc family. Amanda and I were good friends during her time in Evanston, we actually loved about 3 blocks away from each other on Wesley st. I cherish the memories of going to her house and spending time just chatting and enjoying each other´s company. I remember a particularly lovely visit when she sat in front of the piano and played, I was truly moved and remember it vividly to this day. I am truly saddened by this news and I hope you all can find some peace and comfort during this devastating time. My heart goes out to Amanda and her family. May she rest in peace. Godspeed, love always.
