Amelia Alba Obituary

Amelia Teresa Alba
September 27, 1941 - February 16, 2021
Raleigh, North Carolina - Amelia Teresa Alba (79) died on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 after a brief non-Covid related illness. Amy was born, September 27, 1941 in the Philippines, the daughter of Jose Lorenzo Alba and Aurora Espiritu. After completing her education in Manila, she migrated to the United States to join her family in Chicago.
In 1972, Miss Alba came to North Carolina to teach at Annunciation Catholic School in Havelock, and transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Raleigh in 1975 from where she retired after 32 years. Over the years, Miss Alba taught 4th and 5th grades with a respect for each student, and a respect she received in return. Her love for her students over showed the hard work and discipline she demanded from her students.
Amy spent her retirement volunteering and helping others. She volunteered weekly at the Wake County Library in Cameron Village, Raleigh, Catholic Prison Ministry, and Catholic Parish Outreach in Raleigh. She accompanied and directed the Hispanic Choir at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Raleigh for 15 years.
Predeceased by her parents and lone sister, Miss Alba is survived by her adopted sister, Corazon Bilano and by a host of friends and dedicated former students. Amy's ready smile and laugh, optimism, and genuinely helpful demeanor will be long remembered and deeply missed by so many of her friends, colleagues, students, and relatives.

I too was one of the lucky ones to have had Miss Alba as my 4th grade teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes. While very strict, she was such an amazing teacher who instilled into her students a passion for learning. I hope she knew what an impact she had on so many students and how much she was loved. Miss Alba along with her loving smile, compassion, kindness, and selflessness will truly be missed by many. My sincerest condolences to family and friends. Rest In Peace Miss Alba.

Mrs Alba was my 4th grade teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes in Raleigh, NC and one of my hardest teachers. She quizzed us almost daily and pushed us very hard as students. She was also strict with rules and compliancy to those rules. It wasn’t until after college I looked back and realized she was the best teacher I had growing up in my formative years. She will truly be missed by many former students of OLOL. My condolences to her family and friends and I am truly sorry I was unable to make it to her funeral.

I am so sorry to hear of Miss Alba’s passing. I was privileged to have her in 4th grade at OLL in 1983-1984. I remember so much of that year and her influence. Rest In Peace.
