Ava Haines Obituary

Ava Ann Reynolds Haines

April 10, 1950 - August 20, 2017

Raleigh

Ava Haines passed away Sunday August 20 after a short but intense bout with pancreatic cancer. She was born April 10, 1950 in Sampson County, N.C. to Napoleon Almon Reynolds and Bevie Daughtry Reynolds. Ava is survived by her husband, Hudson Hamilton Haines, Jr. and children Hudson Hamilton Haines III and Ava Christine Haines as well as grandchildren Violet Glass and Thomas Glass. Also surviving are her sister Linda Wilson of Apex and brother Robert Reynolds of Florence, S.C. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Parker and nieces Kimberly Lorren and Shannon Dodd.

Ava graduated from Clinton High School and then earned a degree in pharmacy from the University of North Carolina. While working in the field of pharmacy, she earned an MBA from Duke University. After raising her family she earned a third college degree, this time in clinical research. Despite all of this training, Ava's first love was art and design. She spent some time as a docent at the art museum and on occasion hosted private art shows. She really loved helping people design beautiful rooms for their homes. She often travelled to places with outstanding art museums and to follow outstanding musical acts. Her favorites were U2 and Muse. She was able to travel to Charlotte to see Muse in concert before her health began to fail.

Ava just enjoyed travel in general. She and her husband were able to make many trips to Europe and Hawaii during their 38 year marriage. They also loved to take cruises such as their river cruise down the Danube with a special group of friends from Raleigh. They also had another special group of friends that traveled with them on most of the Hawaii and Europe trips. Ava also loved spending time at Indian Beach, N.C. in a house she helped design. This was where she could relax and enjoy her grandchildren. Her other great interests were playing tennis with her friends at Carolina Country Club and playing bridge. She made many dear friends in both these pursuits as well as in the book clubs she attended. Ava possessed a vivacious personality and was loved by many.

The family will receive visitors at Brown Wynn Funeral Home, 300 St Mary's St, Raleigh from 6-8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 23. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 24 at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ava's name to "The Growing in Love Fund" at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Road in Raleigh. Hank,
I just saw the obit on Ava...I just can't believe it. All of our memories came flashing thru my mind and then the heartbreak for you and the children rushed in. I am at a total loss for words. I hold dear all the memories of the times she, you, Greg and I shared and those memories will be with me forever. Please know that my heart aches for you. Take care my dear friend.
