Catherine Flood Obituary

Catherine "Kitty" Flood
August 28, 1944 - July 8, 2022
Pittsboro, North Carolina - Catherine "Kitty" Flood passed away on 8 July 2022 with her loving husband Gregory Flood at her side. Kitty was born in San Diego, California on 28 August 1944 to her parents Norman Joseph Predham and Virginia Lee Killian Predham. Upon Norman's discharge from the U.S. Navy, the family moved to Neptune City, New Jersey, where he joined his father's garage/body shop business. Kitty attended Saint Rose Catholic School in Belmar, New Jersey through high school and in 1966 earned a B.A. in English Literature at Georgian Court College in Lakewood, New Jersey. She and Gregory met in 1965 while working summer jobs in Lake Placid, New York and were married on 9 December 1967. They lived in southern California from 1968 to 1970 during Greg's service in the U.S. Navy. Returning to the East Coast, they moved to the Albany, New York area, where Kitty worked a number of administrative jobs in the personal credit field, while Greg completed his degree studies.
From the mid-1970s, Greg pursued a career in human resources management in local and state government and Kitty worked as the administrative secretary to the Journal Clerk of the New York State Senate. In 1980, she followed Greg to Rome, Italy where he had taken an HR job with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Barred from paid employment by her status, she devoted her considerable energies as a volunteer to the American Women's Association of Rome, serving as its Board Secretary and Technical Editor of its monthly magazine, the AWAR Forum.
Returning to the United States in 2009 following Greg's retirement, they moved to Fearrington Village in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Kitty enjoyed her new life in new surroundings and was looking forward to more travel and adventures. Unfortunately, about ten years ago, she started developing stroke-like symptoms that became increasingly debilitating and that led to her final illness. She is survived by her husband Gregory and a sister Christina "Nina" Predham Thompson of Cambridge, Maryland.

I graduated from Georgian Court with Kitty. We corresponded by email while she lived in Italy. I had hoped to see her at a Reunion once she moved back to the United States. Alas, that was not to be.
My condolences to Kitty's husband Greg and her sister at the loss of a vibrant personality.
