Charles Newmark Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Stephen Newmark, age 81, died on February 1, 2026 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with this family by his side. He was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on August 5, 1944. He graduated from Westminster College and received his Ph.D in clinical psychology from the University of of Alabama. Following his internship at the University Minnesota hospitals, Chuck joined the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at the UNC School of Medicine. He remained there until 1984, and was awarded the Diplomate of Clinical Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology. During his ensuing 25 years in private practice until retiring in 2019, Chuck consulted at various universities, hospitals, mental health centers, prisons and correctional institutions, as well as regularly testifying in court. He was the coauthor or editor of five books on psychological testing and published over seventy articles on personality assessments. His other passions included his family, dogs, UNC basketball, Minnesota Vikings Football, and Las Vegas.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Esther Newmark. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty six years, Linda, and his sister, Phyllis Newmark. His legacy continues in his children, Steve Newmark, Beth Jones (Brad) and Erica Krieg (Rob) as well as his grandchildren, Scott and Andrew Newmark, Charlie and Kate Jones, and Jason, Wes and Taylor Krieg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Orange County Animal Services Community Giving Fund and UNC Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fund.
